fellow AdlerBell Shipper here, there is just something so alluring about them that draws so many of us. Maybe itâs the whole mind game/ toxic dynamic that appeals to dark romance lovers or imaging aus where things went differently than they did in canon. Or even different universes( like an Alice in Wonderland or race car drivers au) Iâm also currently got a masquerade ball in my head right now
Itâs DEF the whole toxic/red flag/star crossed lovers thing. đđđ A lot of us are messed up. Than again, it depends how you write Adler x Bell as well. When did their romance/attraction start? How unethical would the different stages be for Adler to actually grow to like Bell, is it different shades of gray if it started during the torture, the brainwashing process, the successful brainwashed Bell, or after Bell finds out the truth? As you can see, all of these have different shades of grayâobviously some darker than others. Depends how dark youâre writing Adler. And how one sees Bell to be treated depending on how you write Adler.
Thereâs some dark fics out there(Iâm guilty of reading them) where letâs face itâitâs assault and no one should go through that. (We as a fandom I hope are in an agreement that this is messed up and shouldnât happen in real life.) Depends where the line is on an Adler x Bell fic. I prefer the ones where Bell is actually treated more as a person and less than a pet personally. I have a soft heart đ„Č But I appreciate those who can write red flag/toxic Adler so well. I like fics where you actually canât tell if Adler is being genuine or lying. THOSE are the best.
Honestly you can do SO MUCH with these two. The possibilities are endless. đđđ Theyâre so malleable. Yes. You too, Adler.

i saw a post where someone was trying to figure out how tumblr trending works. they made a post with random tags (mole interest) and somehow got it almost 50k notes to see if the tag would trend. it did. but there were also a bunch of other posts about it presumably once it started gaining traction so they might have also contributed to the tag's popularity lol
Headcanon: I often see Bell as having wide and expressive eyes, that's usually in a blank stare after their brainwashing and even then, she still can show emotions very expressively
Maybe this is just me, but it's interesting that Bell and Adler almost always contrast and complement each other in every way and this is why I find their dynamic (and ship if Adler's redeemed) to be one of my all time faves. đđ»đđ»
I agree to an extent!
It really depends on how someone wishes to view Bell. Whether the Bell before the brainwashing or the Bell afterwords.
Is the Bell before that drastically different to the one after?
Because remember, Bell was an amazing soldier/agent for Perseus. Experienced in killing, linguistics, and coding despite the fact that they are young. Young to the others within the safehouse anyways. To be a successful agent means being at least having some rein on your emotionsâtherefore facial expressions. Of course, Bell in Agent Mode may be different to someone who knew Bell in a personal level. So thereâs no way to say really.
But if Adler brainwashed Bell to be more open as an added benefit for him and the others, whoâs to say? They brainwashed Bellâs desire to smoke after all. They couldâve rewired other parts of Bellâs brain to keep the perfect agent yet let them be naive and open for them so they can find the Red Door easier.
Of course, people can write the Bell Before as naive as well. Or just blindly loyal to Perseus which can be seen as naive depending how they got involved with him in the first place. A Perfect Agent when it comes to missions, but can be naive to the ones that Bell chooses to follow and the reasons as to why. And Bell is young, so yes. They can be naive. And impulsive. And reckless at times. It would fit.
Just like how maybe it does fit the reason Bell may wear a mask is because they are more expressive with their face. While the other side of the coin with Adler is that he wears shades to hide his more expressive eyes. Hiding the chance that maybe his eyes even through his shades can be seen by Bell.
He even turns his head away at one point when Bell tells Adler about the Lubyanka mission that he can count on them.
âMmhmmâ
I believe this is the only time he actually looks away from Bell before he answers. A simple hum too in fact. Canât say because he took a drag, heâs taken drags before and he wouldnât have to turn away to do that. Just to blow away from their face. Fully turned his head to the side too, almost to look over his shoulder to make sure Bell doesnât see his eyes.
He really didnât want to risk it there for some reason. Guess he felt himself have more emotion than necessary and probably chose to take a drag at that exact moment too to control his expression.
He gave such a bland answer too. đ âMmhmmâ like uh? Okay? Why didnât he just say âI know, kid.â or whatever? đ Seems he knew it wouldnât come off as genuine in his tone or some reason. I donât know. When I first played it and was ignorant about everything, the bland answer did slightly hurt my feelings.đ I donât know about yaâll, but thatâs how I felt.
In all though, itâs truly what people think of how Bell was Before and After. And the good thing with Bell, is that you can do anything you want with them~! And itâll fit, because well, theyâre whatever we want them to be!
And whoever you want them to be, it usually matches with Adler. Theyâre just amazing togetherđ Two sides of the same coin indeed.
This became a sort of an excited rant, Iâm sorry đ I also found another gif where Adler nods at you so Iâm kinda freaking out

I take it back, I can add something to your Deprogram Map analysis and that is that I just found out the map is Adler's consciousness. There's a helicopter. That's a Bell Huey helicopter, a rather popular type of chopper in the Vietnam War, but also, well, Bell.
The guy I was watching was talking about how the tunnels are basically like portals, and each one leads to another piece of Adler's mind. The evidence board is there, but also a lot of run down homes, indicating maybe we can see where Adler grew up?
I don't know what Galaxy Recon is, but it exists near the Vietnam set so... correlation? Maybe a cigarette company since it's right across the sign that says "No Smoking" which I think is hilarious.
We finally know Adler's from the 13th Marine Regiment. Cool!
I love the portal and red door part!
The four clocks, I can't remember if they're the times the missions were on, but they say 11:50, 12:50, 7:50, and 12:00. No idea if it's AM or PM.
Is that a Jackie Chan movie?
That's about as much as I can draw out of.
Yello!
And yup! This map is Adlerâs mindâquite intricate with all the details from his past(and present). Itâs a map I am still analyzing with all the details(and yes I will analyze that movie poster too đ)
And Galaxy Recon actually has to do with the Arcade Room in his mind! Thatâs a whole other analysis I have to do as well with the certain arcade games within.
The whole map is basically his time in Vietnam however! Just mixing between the lab he tortured/brainwashed Bell as well as where he got tortured/brainwashed by Stitch.
Thereâs actually a lot of signs of No Smoking, so I donât know if Stitch beat it out of him with the smoking like Adler did Bell.
I sadly have no idea about the clocks or their significance đ It probably has to do with the different time zones from the States and the one in Vietnam.
Helicopter Analysis Below
In reference to the helicopter by the caves and the band equipment:
Itâs not a Bell Huey helicopter like so:
The same type of helicopter we see be used by Bell and Sims and later Adler in the Fracture Jaw Mission. (Hehe, Bell. You really picked a good name, huh, Adler?) This heli carries more than two people and has more space due to it and obviously bigger compared to the one in the Deprogram Map.
But, it is a Hughes OH-6 Cayuse(Loach).
This helicopter was used from 1955-1975, years where the Vietnam War was ongoing. And seemed to be quite popular as well. What is funny, as I was taking pictures of the helicopter within the Deprogram Map, I took notice of a magazine.
A magazine by the Hughes(or at least what I believe to be the Hughes) within the Deprogram Map that made me connect another poster I saw in the map(thereâs more than one poster). And itâs this:
It caught my eye. For good reason. Itâs because I was finally able to connect the poster I saw and actually form something.
Thereâs another poster about helicopter accidents and to be careful. I have only found two maybe thereâs another somewhere.
Why do I find this interesting?
Both of theseâthe magazine and posterâconnect to aviation accidents.
Now, this made me connect the Fracture Jaw mission. The helicopter obviously went down there when Bell was with Sims and Adlerâso this event actually happened of course. (Bell was just inserted into Adlerâs memories as we know. Not really there but the memory was real and not made up.)
Helicopter crashes are common however, especially in war. So before I pushed it away as âOh, Adler is just thinking about the Fracture Jaw mission.â I had another thought. Why would he think of that mission specifically?
I mean yes, the pilot died in the chopper, as have others Iâm sure in this war. But the poster just throws me off. The words Preflight and Postflight being repeated, although I realize itâs just to get the message across and is just the design of whoever made the poster, but why so much emphasis? On safety in helicopters? Adler turned out fine in Fracture Jaw.
Than bam! Back to the magazine!
The magazine is referring to Kal Flight 007, a commercial airline that got downed by Soviet jets. @yunatheintrovert pointed this out to me because precociously I thought it was an accident in Vietnamâbut itâs not at all. Since this took place in 1983, a year prior to Cold Warâs events in the cinematic trailer events. I want a DLC please. Killing all 269 passengers on the flight. A major event that shocked the world at the time.
Now, this event will of course drive the wedge further between the U.S. and Russia(it did.) So in turn, making Adler even more determined to take the Soviets down. (The determination turning to recklessness. Why did you leave with a light team to Pines Mall, Adler? You knew it was a trap. Are you suicidal?) Still though, this was an accident at the end. And itâs a warning to be careful. Both with aviation vehicles and with the Soviets.
A reminder for Adler.
The need for Adler to remember helicopters within his mind, the safety of them.
Adler got his scar from a helicopter crash.
It doesnât have to be a large accident specifically, but thatâs the only explanation besides the Fracture Jaw mission! The constant need to remember safety in helicopters! Or just in aviation in general(and Soviets).
Because shrapnel messed up his face and now he has a constant reminder of human error.
This confirms another Tumblr userâs theory here I saw once. I cannot for the life of me remember their username, but someone in this fanbase believed Adler got shrapnel to the face and that is why the scars are so jagged and seem to be without purpose.
Once I find it, Iâll tag them, because hey! This almost sort of confirms it!
The need for Adler to remember and why itâs in his mindâbecause those scars forever made an imprint on his appearance and hence life.
Another reason or another detail as pointed out to me by @asaltryefl with this ask and this one, is that due to the need of the reminder of Kal Flight 007 and besides adding fuel to Adlerâs fire in destroying the Soviets is perhaps another reminder of Soviet interference in another point of timeâthe helicopter crash/accident that Adler was in having to be caused by Perseus. Perhaps Adler missed to dodge an attack or just didnât see it, but even when he landed and survived miraculouslyâhe failed to locate Perseus who mightâve been the probable cause. Maybe even the objective of where Adler and his team were going in the first place.
Adler sure is haunted by this guy, huh?
Also! Wanted to add this little point that was pointed out by @holy-crap-i-am-russlle-adler with their ask. So gives praise and thanks to them! They have an amazing eye for them to find what they did. Basically, another addition to helicopterâs and their safety is that on the helicopter in the Deprogram Map thereâs little warning signs on each side of it. Like tiny. Basically looking like a red square which is why Iâm so impressed they found it! The Warning says this(Tumblr has an image limit):
âPlease carefully read and abide by the safety instructions contained in this equipmentâs operation manual. Operators assume responsibility for any damage, injury, or liability caused by stupidity. Any operator not acting in accordance with the instruction manual or common sense is probably and most definitely an idiot and should be held accountable for their own injury. Any psychological damage caused by an accident is a lie simply by measure of the personâs incompetence and insanity induced by proximity to this equipment. Always keep a safe distance of at least three football fields or actually just start running in the opposite direction. Youâre better off. Nine Ball.â
Whoever wrote this Warning. Thank you. đ Because this is hilarious. Memeing before memes. Also, completely done with life. Too bad Adler didnât listen.
This is just another addition into the helicopter crash/accident that may have caused Adlerâs scar. Because, again, why else with all these warning and reminders of aviation safety?
Point being, all of this is connected. Even more so if you go to my Part 2 of the Arcade Room Analysis.
