I stood on the stage. Dan walked off the piano to stand near me. We looked at our audience. So many people came for the LA show and we told them there would be a surprise. My boyfriend and I agreed it would only be confetti. But I had a different plan.
"Wait." I said before he could start saying good bye to the audience. "Dan, close your eyes."
Dan was shocked as this wasn't rehearsed at all. "What? We need to end the show."
The crowd booed. No one wanted to go yet. I saw many excited faces out in the crowd as the realized Dan really didn't know what was happening.
"Close your eyes." I repeated with a smile.
"Okay. Just letting you guys know, I have no idea what's going on..." Dan nervously laughed and put his hand in front of his eyes.
I put my finger up to my mouth to tell the crowd to be silent. Of course they just started to cheer. I walked over the the side of the stage and held out my hand. A helper put a little box in my hand. I held it behind me when I walked back on stage and stood next to Dan.
"I'm scared, please don't like put a spider on me or something." Dan said.
I smiled at the crowd and knelt down on one knee. The people started to scream at the top of their lungs.
I saw Dan nervously frown at the change in the excitement.
"You can open your eyes now." I said. Dan put his hands to his sides to just gasp and pull them back up to his mouth.
I held out the box I was holding from the crowd and another wave of screams came.
I took at deep breath. "Dan." I exhaled and smiled up at him.
"Phil..." he answered weakly, voice cracking a little. His eyes were tearing up a bit. But so were mine.
"Dan, I... I loved you so so so much. And I know I tell you it all the time, and you'd make fun of me," Dan chuckled a bit, "but it is true. Ever since first talking to all those years ago, I've been happier. You, Dan, have made me happier. First talking to you everyday just over the internet was the highlight of my days. When we first met, on October 19th, all the way back in 2009, I thought I couldn't be any happier. That meeting you was the best thing to ever happen to me. And I was right. It was. But everyday I've spent with you since have also been the best days. Because I'm with you. And I love you. I want to buy a house with you. I want to get a dog with you. I want to raise children with you. Dan, I want to grow old with you. Because no one has ever meant this much to me. Because at this point I can't imagine a world without you. You are my best friend, my boyfriend, my other half, my soul mate. I want you to be my husband. So, Daniel James Howell." I open the box to reveal a shiny diamond ring.
Dan was actually full on crying by then, and as it looked, many people in the crowd were too.
Everyone held their breath, for they knew what I was to ask next.
I wiped a tear from my eye and cleared my throat.
"Will you marry me?" I ask.
"YES!" He yells. I hurriedly stand up and he pulls me into a great embrace. "YES YES YES!"
I laugh as he practically jumps up and down. The crowd to the loudest I've ever heard but at the same time the quietest. I'm not paying attention to them anymore. All I see is Dan and the future we'll live together. I kiss him deeply feeling our tears mixing on our cheeks. We laugh and cry and kiss.
