It felt almost surreal, but this was my first drawing of a meal out in almost a year. For those who know me well, I am an avid sketchbook artist, and love drawing the meals I have out, but due to COVID-19 restrictions and how sick I’ve been, I haven’t been able to enjoy a good sketchbook meal in quite some time. I chose my reunion spot carefully - I went to @eatwithbacari (the Glendale location at @americanabrand). It’s a Mediterranean and Italian small plate restaurant with distanced outdoor seating (wide enough for my rollator and service dog). I used to visit there with my partner and mother when she visited pre-pandemic. Every meal we had was a knock-out. Today was no different, service was warm and kind, and the food was incredible. I set up my tools, and relished in just… enjoying. A good simple drawing session, beautiful, well-crafted food, a simple experience I had so taken for granted.
