This… wasn’t supposed to happen… There wasn’t supposed to be civilians here. But there was. And they’re good and dead now. Some here children and others were adults and the rest… The rest were infants. Innocent children who couldn’t have seen their death coming. To young, to fragile.

“Ghost. Do you copy?” “Yes Sir.”

The british man responded. His voice carrying through the rubbled remains of the town, catching the attention of a young child.

“The Russians… They caused… extra casualties. At least twenty civilians”

“Jesus fuck… Just… Just get to the exfiltration Simon. You did your best.”

And with that Simon turned and began to leave, his team following suit. The three men seemed to be unaware of the curious and scared eyes that followed them.

The small eyes that watched from the shadows, watched the armored men leave, watched them leave the massacre and death behind. They watched friends and family slowly emerge from the shadows, mourning mothers, fathers, children, and lovers. But those eyes were too young to understand the death that hung heavy in the air, too young to know that this wasn’t the end.
