There's dozens of things about larping that i find meaningful or fun or beautiful. But one devastatingly good feeling is being in a fray of people, all fighting a literal common enemy, and feeling that unwavering support around you. Being the healer or being touched by the healer who just bodily pushed their way to the front line to pump a round of hp into you? Could cry every time. The shield babes (gender neutral) who lean to intercept incoming blades for you. Lancers who shout "on your right!" and stay at your side so you can't get flanked. That culmination of a weekend (or countless events) of building trust and friendship, the visceral, physical manifestation of that trust. All in a safe little microcosm of roleplay and game. It means the world to me.
My larp character never wears armor and they haven’t carried their old swords in a long time. But this weekend is The Event for them. So to make a dramatic entrance I’m showing up to game decked out in armor and with my old rapiers strapped to my hip.
When I started larping as Cade again I had 2 big goals that I thought I’d work towards. I bought myself a fancy bottle of mead and decided if I accomplished either one of them I’d drink it to celebrate. Somehow, through some divine writing in the stars both should be happening Friday night.
The stage is set. The players are in the wings. I’m flying closer to the sun then I have ever managed to before. Either Cade will land safely in victory or the wax in their wings will melt and it all comes crashing down. I’m ready. Let’s do this.
Hopefully come Sunday I’ll be having a drink.
this is of no interest to anyone, but I was on larp again, so I'll leave this for myself 😅
