Have you guys ever been to Ostrava? :) because I'm going to live there for a year as a volunteer from Germany! Do you have any recommendations regarding how to learn Czech?
Hi! We haven´t unfortunatelly (even though I really want to go), but our lovely friend insomniatum has spent some time in Ostrava and as far as I know she loved it there :) Sounds like a great experience! A volunteer for what? As for learning Czech - there is this great post by languageek with various useful links that could help you learn Czech. My personal advice though - it´s complicated so be patient :D Good luck with everything!!
Edit: And I also wanted to mention prvni-slova which is very useful as well :)
I was on a triple date with a bunch of Brazilians, and they were saying how Portuguese from Portugal is so chic, and how Brazilians speak Portuguese incorrectly. I was thinking about the "incorrect" and "correctness" of a language, and if everyone speaks a certain way, even if it's "incorrect" from the standard, wouldn't become correct? I mean, it's part of the identity of the language; for example, if they say "tu quer comer alguma coisa" versus "você quer comer alguma coisa" or "tu queres comer alguma coisa." Being incorrect in terms of a population of people speaking a language is relative, isn't it? It appears that way to me anyways...
