Sparks ========== Lake Shore Drive stands between the city streets and Lake Michigan on Chicago's near north side. A stretch of seawall with a bike path on it is the only barrier between the Lake's sometimes violent waves and the city's major north/south thoroughfare. The city was doing some repair work to the seawall in May. On my morning commute, I passed construction works cutting rebar out of the concrete in order to demo part of the seawall. I noticed the plume of sparks that emerged when the workers would cut the rebar and I stopped to capture the unexpected moment. I would love to replicate this shot at night. Signs Of Spring Volume 2 ========== The second sign of spring arrives in the form of an explosion of green. Another name for Chicago is the latin phrase "Urbs in horto" which translates to "City in garden". City beautification projects in the late 1980s have resulted in trees planted in sidewalk planters, turning the city into a green space come warmer months. This picture is one such tree taken in the very early morning. A narrow aperture exposure translates the morning sunlight into a prismatic streak across the new leaves.
