Guess who found out they really like working with laceweight while crochet~ing
...i should dig out my Adapter handles
It is time for [drumroll]
📯The Airing of the Stash 2023🎉
Whee!
I'm gonna do this in sections, across multiple posts, mostly for my own recordkeeping/organization. First, the laceweights:
Not so much in this category, despite how much I like to knit lace. These first ⬇️ are all wool, or wool blends. Mostly leftovers from previous projects.
The green & darker blue are merino, that I know, and the dark grey is Haapsalu wool (and there's more of it in a scraps bag I found later). The natural color is maybe a blend with alpaca, and the light blue merino/silk is as labelled.
Next alpaca, and a silk/cashmere blend. Ooh la la!
I took a (small) gamble on this, as it feels nice and there's a lot of it, but alas it appears to be cotton (or at least a plant fiber). I'm going to have to start bringing a lighter & scissors to the scrap shop when I go, and awkwardly asking the staff if I can burn test fibers. I can still do something with it, but it's not destined to be the gossamer lace shawl of my dreams.
Broke 20,000 yards on worked yarn so far this year. Happy to report I can feel all my fingers, do not have pain in my wrists or elbows, and the pulled muscle from the baby blanket is fully healed.
Now, if I could please finish this cape collar before I turn to dust (laceweight yarn, lace pattern, 6 rows an inch, need 44 inches. Just hit inch 20. Have to wind another skein into a usable shape.)
Evening Cape, skein 1 complete!
First skein down! This is Luminance, a laceweight, hand-dyed silk from Knitpicks. It is absolutely stunning. I held onto it for years not sure what to use it for, then found this pattern:
To say this one is going to take awhile is...not incorrect. But holy shit it will be magnificent when I finish.
BTW, if you’re curious how small a hook you have to use to work with laceweight, here’s an F-hook (the solid green one) next to the 2.00 mm I’m using:
And that’s not even the smallest hook I own.
I found out last night that this beautiful purple colorway is no longer available (I’ve had the yarn for years, as mentioned, so that’s not a shock), so I’m not sure what color the dress will be. Maybe silver. But we can figure that out in...awhile.

The last few weeks of this year have been so incredibly busy that I haven't taken the time to post. I hope to change that in the new year! 2021 has both dragged on by and cometed from pillar to post. I hope that 2022 will bring us all a quieter year. I wish you and those you love a calm and creative year ahead. So one of the things I want to take this time to do is make some things for myself that aren't costumes. I decided because I wear scarves almost regularly I can add to my collection! I found @life_is_cozy #stormyskyshawl and knew it would be perfect for this laceweight silk/super kid mohair skein I have been hoarding for 10 years. Literally. I bought the yarn when I was at DLI learning Korean! But I'm finally using those ~*good supplies*~ Also, I've discovered knitting is a great recentering activity and a good way to start my day! _________________________________ #zephyrmakesthings #knitting #shawl #laceweight #yarn #seriesrebootwardrobe https://www.instagram.com/p/B-sSCwNDe03/?igshid=15tu1p31692bo
