This July, we’re examining how artists in the Brooklyn Museum collection have dissected liberty, as a monument and as a concept, in the context of the United States.
Stacy Lynn Waddell infuses bodily presence and lived experience to examine historic erasure of Black achievements in traditional monuments. The artist exalts “M.H.,” performance artist and sculptor Maren Hassinger, atop a plinth in place of Confederate General Beauregard whose statue was removed from New Orleans, during their residency at the Joan Mitchell Center in 2017.
Waddell utilizes gold and aluminum leaf, perhaps as a nod to heraldic traditions, while her painstaking linework reflects the laborious technique of monolithic creations. As monument removal becomes increasingly pressing in the current Black Lives Matter movement, Waddell’s work tempts the viewer to question:
What would the world look like if we amplified the voices of Black women?

Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, is speaking in the European parliament now.
He says in the House of Commons there have only been majorities against things.
That is not how an orderly withdrawal can be managed, he says.
If the UK is to avoid a no-deal Brexit, there is only one way forward: to vote for a deal.
And there is only one treaty available, he says. He holds up a copy of the withdrawal agreement.
He says the option of no deal looks “very likely”. It is not the option he would have gone for, he says. You do not need a negotiator for no deal. But the EU has spent a lot of time over the last few months preparing for this.
He says that at the start of this process, Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, said the future of the EU was more important than Brexit. He agrees, he says.
Barnier says the future of the EU is more important than Brexit

My remarks:
I think this whole thing takes too long. Okay, u need to be well prepared because this is an important thing in the history of Europe. They have been working on it for so long so i think they have to keep going and continue the fight.
Ofcourse the future of Europe is more important, I also think that the UK can stand on it’s own 2 feet and the future doesn’t look that hard for them. They won’t have much complications if they will leave Europe, they will fix it themselves.
I have a good eye for it and I hope everything will become clear very soon.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself, always a laborious business.
A. A. Milne
It all sounded very glamorous, although the idea of tossing up my skirts for pay struck me as being even more laborious than killing the dead. —Justina Ireland/Dread Nation

Riflettere è considerevolmente laborioso; ecco perché molta gente preferisce giudicare. José Ortega y Gasset Reflection is remarkably laborious; that’s why many people prefer to judge. José Ortega y Gasset
