Ingredients: 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour. 1 teaspoon baking powder. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened. 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar. 1 large egg. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. Food coloring red, green, and any other desired colors. Assorted sprinkles and edible decorations.
Instructions: Mix the flour and baking powder together in a medium-sized bowl. Put the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl and mix them together until they are light and fluffy. Together with the butter, add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Combine well. Mix the wet ingredients with the dry flour mixture little by little until a soft dough forms. Separate the dough into pieces, one for each color of dough you want. Add a few drops of food coloring to each piece and mix them together until the color is spread out evenly. Place one piece of colored dough in the fridge for at least an hour to get firm. Set the oven to 350F 175C and heat it up. To make each color of dough about 1/4 inch thick, roll it out on a lightly floured surface. Cut the rolled dough into shapes with cookie cutters. Put the shapes that you cut out on a baking sheet that has parchment paper on it. After the oven is hot, bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Let the cookies cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before moving them to a wire rack to cool all the way. Once the cookies are completely cool, use royal icing or icing pens to decorate them with different kinds of sprinkles and other edible decorations. Wait for the icing to harden before you serve or package the cookies.
