“...I see, I see. A most respectable effort, indeed.” He spoke with a cadence of a scholar; precisely, deliberately, entirely focused, and yet with an unmistakable excitement in his voice. “Could I trouble you for permission to read your work, Master Illuga?”
“...Why?”
“Why not?”
Somehow, Illuga did not expect to be at the losing side of this question-for-question exchange. “Why not?”, he repeated in his head. The answer stayed elusive.
“Well, you haven’t read the original series, I think… you’d recognize the characters’ names if you did,” he concluded. Yet, his colleague still expectedly watched him, clearly unsatisfied with said conclusion. “I feel like the story I’ve written would be out of context,” Illuga added, but to no avail. It was still a weak argument; the words kept stumbling over each other while he waved his hand in the air in a circular motion.
“That is alright. I can piece it all together.” Flins nodded along. “I do not intend to be a critic.”
“I never thought you’d be one. I guess… The other thing is that… I changed some of the character dynamics a little bit. It’s not one hundred percent true to the source material, but adjusted to… add...
