Thinking about Fable characters driving cars again.
Lab trio going on field trips in Rae's soccer mom minivan loaded with snacks, camping gear, and science equipment.
Rae drives. Athena "navigates" and picks the tunes. Jamie provides snacks and things from their luggage as needed from the backseat. They get lost constantly because none of them can actually navigate.
They play road games and have stupid debates over nonsense to pass the time. At some point Jamie and Athena pass out, and Rae turns down the music as soon as he notices. At the next stop, Athena moves to the back to cuddle with Jamie and they continue napping.
Rae hums quietly along with Athena's roadtrip playlist while they nap, occasionally glancing at the rear-view mirror to smile fondly at his nephews.
I've been rereading early EGS - I juat finished Painted Black - and I have to say
while there have been some Painfully 2000s moments, there's not as many as I remember
Ellen and Nanase are already cute
I doubt we'll see an EGS animated series any time soon, but if that somehow did happen I would watch it
The presence of a substantial initially-extraterrestrial diaspora with access to advanced magitek might actually explain how Moperville's technology has kept pace with the real world despite much less time passing in-universe
I did not think I'd see anything I could interpret as Lab Trio polyamory potential this early on (considering that they're not even the Lab Trio yet) but there were a few pleasant surprises on that front. Also noting the author's note about how Sarah gets "what lurks beneath the surface of Tedd better than Tedd does [like Grace does], and is willing to accomodate her"
