Falling apart was easy, too easy. Falling into the sheets of your bed, dragging them up and letting yourself dissolve and shred mentally was all too simple.

You breath prickled at your chest before roaring in your ears. You clutched at yourself where you could, desperately searching for something, anything to ground yourself on.

Bless Keigo’s finely tuned wings and their ability to sense breath.

The moment he was through the apartment door, he could guess how you were feeling.

“Hey, hey, sweets, dove,” Keigo’s voice was cut through your fog, though it hardly did much to soothe the ache in your chest. “Can I sit with you?”

You managed to nod, head just barely poking over the covers.

Keigo was quick to rustle around, probably peeling off his uniform. You sniffled, rubbing at your eyes as your chest ached. It must’ve been what sent him moving faster, the blankets pulling away for him to join you underneath.

“You okay if I touch you?” He asked, hovering close behind your back.

You nodded again, maybe a bit afraid to use your voice.

It was all he needed.

As he pressed closer, you rolled, pushing your face into his chest. You gripped at his shirt with everything you had, burying yourself and praying that however awful you felt would pass.

“Oh, baby,” His voice was soft and silky as he ran his hand over your hair. “Try to focus on me, okay? Let’s get your breathing a little slower.”

You nodded. Keigo’s wing extended over the two of you, pressing down just enough to apply light pressure. Nothing crushing, just like a heavier blanket the duvet. It helped that you were truly surrounded by him, all red and warm and spiced-smelling.

Keigo cupped the back of your neck, rubbing a thumb up and down your the vertebrae in time with each slow inhale and exhale. You followed him the best you could.
