Gallery Assistant (part-time, temporary) L.A. Louver Venice, CA  

L.A. Louver is seeking a Gallery Assistant. This is a part-time (three days per week), temporary position (through February 2017).

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate who is highly organized, has an innate eye for detail, and is technically inclined.

Duties will include digital file management, creating visual presentations (both electronic and hard copy), basic correspondence, and archival filing. Strong research and writing skills are also highly prized, as would an interest in assisting with our social media platforms.

The position requires excellent and proven skills in Photoshop and Acrobat skills; experience with image scanning; fluency in all things Mac (OS, iOS, all devices).

@artillerymag reviews Matt Wedel at LA Louver in Los Angeles 2016

The latest artist to address these issues is Rebecca Campbell, who paints portraits of female artists currently working in Los Angeles. Rendered in gestural brushstrokes of black, white, and gray acrylic against salmon pink, the portraits’ subjects all stare directly at the viewer. They range from multimedia visual artist Alexandra Grant to dancer Mpambo Wina to photographer Lia Halloran. Called You Are Here, 19 portraits from this ongoing series are now on view at the LA Louver Gallery.

High Five is a series in which interesting Angelenos share their favorite things in our fine city. Today, we asked Chinese photographer Chen Man, who splits her time between Beijing and Los Angeles, where she spends her time in the Southland. 

I’ve recently purchased a home in Los Angeles, and my family and I split our time between here and Beijing. What we love most about being in L.A. is its close proximity to both the mountains and the beach, and not to mention the fantastic weather and perpetual sunshine.

The Main Course on Pico Boulevard

I stumbled into this place accidentally, and was charmed by the lovely granny who owns and manages the restaurant. The old-style American-European dishes are humble, comforting and really delicious. Their approach to home-style cooking reminds me of one of my favorites places to eat in Shanghai, called Mao Long Restaurant. 

I’ve also discovered Whole Foods, which was a revelation. There are so many choices for organic food that you don’t get in China, and the buffet offerings are so tasty. You know Chinese all love to have good food!

Rose Garden Tea Room at The Huntington Library

The delicate sandwiches and decadent pastries, served with a quality selection of teas, are not only delicious, but also aesthetically delightful. A perfect accompaniment while taking in the exquisite rose gardens, so you can feast your eyes on the visual banquet at the same time.

Hollywood Bowl

Last summer, I was invited to see a performance at the Hollywood Bowl for the first time, and it has been one of my most memorable experiences in L.A. Being under an open sky, with good food and good music, it doesn’t get any better.
