Nah, I don't think you really need to know any sort of gamer lingo to read it. At center, it's about four kids who play a videogame that inadvertently causes the end of the world and their attempts to save it. But it spirals out from there. It's essentially a work of self-aware satire, mixed with intensely dramatic elements. You really wouldn't guess that from reading just act 1, but there you have it.
That sounds like the movie Surf Ninja's. I don't know if you've seen it but it's about these two brothers who are the rightful heir's to the thrown of Patusan. The evil Emperor played by Leslie Neilsen took over and now the brothers have to face their destiny and take back their land.
The younger brother, Adam, is able to see the future and change the outcome of things via his Sega handheld.
I'll probably look into it. Though I'm probably going to watch Surf Ninja's first because I'm really in the mood to watch it now.
