Occupation: Time-warpers of the week
First Appearance: “Year of Hell” (VOY, 1997)
Summary: For centuries, the Krenim Imperium was one of the largest, most powerful civilizations of the Delta Quadrant, spanning over two hundred star systems at its peak. They were masters of temporal mechanics and temporally-interfacing technology. They even built time-based weaponry, such as chroniton torpedoes, which could phase through any shield that was not specifically calibrated to repel them.
Starting in the early 22nd Century, however, their vast empire began to fall apart. Species such as the Zahl and the Rilnar began to cut away at their borders. They are considerably less impressive as of the late 24th century, but still hold on to quite a sizeable chunk of territory. Interestingly, the distribution of the chroniton particles in Krenim space have hinted at the presence of intersecting alternate timelines drastically affecting the Krenim, and many of the civilizations around them. Indeed, they hint at multiple temporal incursions in the area, with repercussions of a magnitude beyond anything the Federation has ever seen. The source of these temporal incursions remains unknown, and it may have already been suppressed or eliminated in an alternate timeline.
