I'd love to explore their dynamics tbh. Kozenigata seems to be familiar with her as the top kabajou, among other things. I love it.

MY 16 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 621:

Loved seeing so many familiar faces popping up again!

1) Otose is really so awesome. 

2) Katsuo!!  I was so happy to see him!

3) I don’t care if it’s all due to plastic surgery, I still think he’s pretty.

4) These two guys really should not be talking about spreading viruses. Lol.

5) Lmao. Gross.

6) Seeing the town band together like this just warmed my soul.

7) Love Catherine’s words!

8) Even though I didn’t really think we would lose Tae-chan, this was still a heart-stopping moment.

9) This sequence...one of the best in the arc...the Yorozuya working together as one to save Tae-chan...

10) ...even though they weren’t entirely successful. Shinpachi’s expression made my heart hurt.

11) So freaking disturbing...and I wanted the Shinra to die a thousand times for being total monsters.

12) Otose is just so badass. Sure, she knew help had arrived, but that blade still got way too close for comfort yet she didn’t flinch at all.

13) YES! HA! Take that you Shinra bastards!

14) I thought someone would catch Tae-chan...of course I hoped it would be Kondou...but this was a pleasant surprise. Gin-chan’s fall position is hilarious.

15) Pirako!! Was THRILLED to see her again! Couldn’t wait to see how much stronger she got under her dad’s tutelage.

16) Jirochou making a boss AF entrance.

SHIPS TALLY:

None really, even though Katsuo and Kyoushirou were arguing it just didn’t feel shippy enough, especially since they were talking about spreading their virus to women...lotsa love for the town tho.

MY 20 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 527:

aka, one of my favorite chapters in one of my favorite arcs of all time. Oh wait, I said the same thing last chapter. Oh well. It’s true though. Love love LOVE this chapter and this arc. The Snack Smile scene is just...I really can’t think of any other word than LOVE. Love love LOVE IT. Not to mention, this chap features all three of my main OTPs: GinHiji, OkiKagu, KonTae. It’s truly glorious.

1) Zura!! I was so happy to see him!! When he appeared at the beginning of this chapter, I immediately started hoping that he would finally get to participate in a serious arc since he’s usually forced to sit them out. I loved his tribute to Shi-chan: so touching, so sweet.

2) Awww...

3) ...she misses Kondou...

4) ...they both miss Kondou. Ugh, my heart. I wish he could have known their feelings.

5) I wanted to kiss Kozenigata for inviting Gintoki to Hijikata’s welcome party. 

6) Dear Haji, she gets it. She obviously ships Gintoki and Hijikata too.

7) They are so adorable I can’t even. This was probably the first time Toshi had any levity since probably as far back as ShigeShige’s death. Kondou’s arrest most likely made him feel worse. Really, again, bless Kozenigata for inviting Gintoki to the party.  

8) But then these two assholes had to show up and shit on the party. I loved Hijikata’s look...he was ready to kill their asses.

9) Again, Hijikata’s expression. I still amazes me NobuNobu lived utter another word.

10) What kind of idiot would still stand around threatening this man after seeing that look on his face? 

11) Omgggggggg swoooonnnnnn!

12) When I first saw this, I probably screamed in happiness when Kagura and Sadaharu appeared to “rescue” Okita. 

13) I wanted to kill NobuNobu myself. I hated him so much at this point; I still can’t believe Sorachi-sama managed to redeem this asshole. 

14) I love that the focus is on Gintoki since he was essentially forced to do the same thing, and worse, since he had to actually carry out his leader’s execution. Such a perfectly set up moment.

15) Their reactions to NobuNobu striking down two of Tae-chan’s coworkers in cold blood. He was such a horrible villain! I seriously can’t believe I actually have warm feelings for him now. Sorachi-sama is amazing. 

16) I was so proud of Tae-chan for totally standing up to NobuNobu.

17) I loved the setup of this moment...

18) ...which led to this. I love this moment so damn much. Gintoki sacrificing his face to save Hijikata and probably the entire Shinsengumi from being executed. If Hijikata had hit NobuNobu, it would’ve been all over for him for sure. He would have been executed alongside Kondou and Matsudaira. Gintoki did this to save him. And my heart just about burst into a tiny happy floating pieces.

19) Gintoki is holding Hijikata’s hand. I am not going to apologize for my fangirling. I deserved this. 

20) I CHEERED. And then of course was immediately worried for Gintoki. I didn’t want him to be executed either. 

SHIPS TALLY:

Gintoki x Hijikata: I’ve probably said enough already so I’ll just leave it at Squeeeee!

Okita x Kagura: she appeared like a beacon of light out of the darkness for him. She loves him. I refuse to believe otherwise.

Kondou x Otae: I’ve always believed that this is where Tae-chan started to really come around on Kondou and her feelings of annoyance with him began to turn into love and affection. She missed him and obviously admired him. I just wish he wasn’t in prison for all this. He would’ve been so happy to see her defend him.

Kondou x Hijikata: Toshi missed Kondou too. Of course I can’t board this ship but I totally understand why people do.

Kozenigata x Otae: he was being a bit presumptuous with that “Otae-chan”. 

Gintoki x Hijikata x Otae: personally, I think it was more KonTae than anything since she was missing him, but if this 3P makes you happy, I can see that too.  

NobuNobu x Otae: he was a total creep doing a total creep thing, but he weirdly lingered on her for a tad bit too long so I have to recognize that.

MY 12 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 550:

Can’t believe I’m already near the end of the Farewell Shinsengumi Arc. This arc and the Shogun Assassination arc really changed everything about Gintama for me and it’s been a pretty glorious journey since then. The next chapter is a major one for me; I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it right now. I can’t wait to read it again and I actually almost cheated tonight and just jumped right into it. It took a lot of self control to not do it and I’m kinda proud of myself that I was able to resist. 

1) I remember being so sad and panicky when I first saw this because it felt like things were coming to an end...which, technically, it was, for a bit, but at the time, I could not have known just how final things were going to be.

2) There was something beautiful and heart-breaking about the fact that the Shinsengumi were now seen as the equivalent of the Joui rebels.

3) “Various Other Forces”...lol.

4) His poor face. Although,  I do remember thinking maybe Tae-chan will actually love him now that he has a badass scar on his face.

5) I loved their conversation about the white and black mixing: they really have mixed since the beginning of the Shinsengumi since Isaburo had such a hand in helping them survive back then and now.

6) Tetsu’s words made my heart ache a little, but I did appreciate the fact that he wasn’t crying over his brother since that was the most realistic reaction. Isaburo had always been a total dick to his little brother, so it made sense that even though he was died now, Tetsu wouldn’t be able to cry over him since they were never close.

7) Sadness.

8) Powerful.

9) She looks so alone now even though she has so many behind her. Ugh.

10) Crying. 

11) Kozenigata and Madao really should get together and become drinking buddies. 

12) I screamed in glee and then totally teared up the first time I saw this. I just couldn’t believe it was happening. Never could I have imagine this was just the tip of the iceberg of KonTae awesomeness...of ALL awesomeness.

SHIPS TALLY:

Kondou x Otae: I could have passed out from happiness. Finally, a REAL moment between them. I waited so so SO long for this...ever since the first time Kondou sat by her side and talked about his ass hair I’ve wanted a serious moment like this. Of course at the time I was also having a total anxiety attack over the goodbye part, but I was still mentally bouncing off the walls from sheer joy.

MY 10 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 531:

1) These three musketeers. I really enjoyed seeing them team up like this. I wouldn’t have minded seeing their solo adventures on the prison island last just a little bit longer.

2) Zura’s hair...the man still manages to look so damn good even when he’s all bloodied up. I especially love that he had his hair up the same way as when he was a child. SO CUTE.

3) Honestly, I wanted to do that to Kozenigata. I do appreciate him more now, but his hard-boiled monologues are still a bit of a bore.

4) I still want a plushie of Elizabeth in her prison garb. 

5) I could’ve seen so many more scenes with these two. They are hilarious together.

6) I loved this bloody, haunting scene on the “ghost” ship that approached them. One of the aspects of Gintama that I’ve always loved is Sorachi-sama’s ability to so easily switch between moments of pure comedy, like the one above between Saitou and Elizabeth, to really serious and gritty scenarios like this blood bath, so that we’re almost effectively jerked from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other within a span of just a few frames or less.

7) I also loved the imagery of the Naraku appearing from the smoke as if they some kind of murderous spirits. It really gave them a sense of creepiness.

8) Sougo just being freaking amazing as usual by killing two Narakus with just one move. 

9) Shinpachi being totally hard-boiled and making a pretty cool entrance. I also loved this moment because I suddenly realized the Yorozuya was going to join in the fight which also meant we would be getting more GinHiji moments. 

10) With Otae’s appearance here, I was actually excited that she might get to FIGHT with them against the enemy...even though it didn’t really end up that way, I still liked this moment because of Kagura.

SHIPS TALLY:

Gintoki x Hijikata: as I mentioned above, I got excited when Shinpachi appeared on the boat because then that means Gintoki would probably soon follow, but boy did I still underestimate what kind of awesome-ass entrance he would make. I mean, look at this! A bonafide GinHiji moment right from the get-go. I almost wept from gratitude.

Saitou x Elizabeth: I could ship ‘em. 

Kozenigata x Hijikata: I was actually jealous that Kozenigata got to enjoy an Ai no Kusabi moment with Hijikata. I almost wished that Gintoki smoked.
