The fire snapped, sending flames of breathing coals into the air, brightening the lackluster sky and the purple-skin elf across from Koyos. The woman was dressed in all black leathers, tight as skin tight could be without causing to much restrain; not much different from his reinforced leathers, though his color pattern could be considered livelier. Her eyes shown a soft yellow glow as the living coals sputtered out of life and fell harmlessly out of sight.
Her eyes shifted ever so coldly upon Koyos, slowly, cautiously, and with desire; his skin prickled.
âI heard a little rumor,â she started, stretching out her long legs while carefully arching her back behind as she sprawled out like a cat soaking in the moonlight.
When Koyos didnât fall for her bait, she continued, âThat Kulâtiras has a warning to stay out of this specific area. Horde occupants and all.â She paused, clearly giving him the chance to speak. He did not. âA blood elf demon hunter, highly aggressive.â Her lips curled up into a little smirk.
Koyos threw a log upon the fire. âDid you come all this way to warn me?â The flames licked at the wood, crushing the hollowed-out husk of the log underneath.
âYou know there are many bounties and warnings being passed by Alliance lips?â she mused.
âYet you found me,â he paused, âAgain.â
She chuckled, a sweet sound; he found himself scowling.
âIndeed. Truth be told, I came looking for the bounty. Do my rightful Alliance pride, you understand?â
He shifted, leaning back against the bed rock.
The silence passed for a short time leaving only the fireâs crackle, the soft whine of the wind, and the busy buzzing of bugs.
âI see somethingâs never change,â she said. âTen thousand years,â she paused mulling over that word, tasting it with disguist. âTen thousand, you know, and you still refuse to choose a side.â
âHow could I when I was cast to one side?â Strangely, he expected those words to hiss out that age old hatred. But tonight, with her across from him, her skin unchanged, beautiful and transfixedâŚ
âDo I sense regret?â she toyed playfully, uncurling herself and leaning far into the campfires. The flames illuminated her deep purple skin, reducing the glow of her yellow eyes to those of large saber.
      âYou hear things,â he said.
She laughed. âSo,â she leaned back against the bedrock, her arms stretching out, her eyes glowing once more, âTell me what happened.â
      âIt was a mistake.â
She was silent, and it was too dark to see any twitch of her ears, or the shape of her lips so far from the flames; these eyes are both a blessing and a curse.
âThe Hunter missed?â She toyed with a crooked tone to her lips.
Koyos took a breath, letting it out slow and whispery. âWe came up on each otherâs blind spots,â he started, reflecting on the one and only confrontation of the week. âNo one knows how to react properly when they see a Demon Hunter.â Surprisingly, he hissed the term with venom and spite.
Silence laid its claim once more.
Their voices never rose again, not even as the fire dimmed and the stars shone warmly, for both found their way to their dreams as dawn approached.
