let me take care of it, babe - takeshi kovacs
summary: you take care of Kovacs after stressful events
word count: 1192
song: The Cure - Lady Gaga
author's note: english is not my first language, this is more based on the book (which I'm currently reading) than the show (it's been years since I last watched it), Kovacs is completely out of character but he's a lover boy and I'll die on that hill, hope you enjoy it <3
You were sitting on the bed reading a book when Takeshi Kovacs barged into your bedroom like he owned the place. It didn't really scare you, though, because Poe warned you as soon as Tak entered the hotel.
- So Bancroft didn't put you back in the fridge. That's good knews… I guess. - you said as you closed your book. - You look like shit though.
Takeshi only growled in response, dropping on the armchair near your mini bar and pouring himself some whiskey.
- I haven't slept in the last 30 hours and I've been tortured. I think I have the right to look like shit.
- I never said otherwise. - you said as you approached him.
- Can I stay here tonight?
- Sure, you look like you couldn't walk to your bedroom on your own… Do you want me to run you a bath?
- Would you do that for me? - Takeshi asked as he caressed your hand with his thumb. You looked into his eyes, they were glassy and stained red at the same time, evidence of the tiredness taking over Kovacs.
- I don't want your dirty ass sleeping in my bed. - you deadpan, making the envoy scoff and roll his eyes.
- Can you run me a bath, please?
- Of course. - you caressed Takeshi’s face and he leaned into your touch.
You asked Poe to play soft music and dim the lights as you walked into the bathroom to get the water running. While the bathtub fills, you run to the envoy’s bedroom to get him some clean clothes. Once you were back and the tub filled, you noticed how quiet Kovacs was, so you walked over to him. The glass, mostly empty now, was still in his hand, although it was hanging just as his head was. His mouth was slightly open and he breathed even.
You took the glass out of his hand and lowered yourself to open his shirt, trying not to wake him up. Nonetheless, as soon as you touched Takeshi he jolted awake, grabbing your wrist harshly.
- Easy there, it's just me.
- I'm sorry. - his eyes widened when Tak noticed he could have hurt you, he then started to caress your hand with his thumb again. - I didn't mean to…
- I know, it's fine. Your bath is ready.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Takeshi asked if you were going to join him and, honestly, it was hard telling him no, especially when he looked this beat up. So you followed him into the bathroom with the excuse you didn't want him to fall and hit his head or drown in your bathtub. Both of you knew you didn't need excuses with Takeshi Kovacs.
You helped him undress and get into the bathtub, then took your own clothes off to join him in the hot water. You settled behind the envoy and started massaging his shoulders, which clearly made him relax. After a while, Tak leaned his head against your chest and fell asleep again. The water started to cool down.
- Hey, envoy, the water is getting cold, we should get off. - you called softly.
Kovacs didn't really answer, but he nodded shortly and slowly rose from the water. You followed him. Now you were both clean, dried and wearing comfy clothes, you headed to the bed and as soon as you lied down, Tak crashed into you. His head rested on your chest like it belonged there and you ran your fingers through his hair. His left hand was under your shirt, grabbing your waist as Takeshi started to rub himself against your thigh.
- Don't even think about it, Kovacs. You couldn't even get halfway through it even if you wanted to.
He hated to admit it, but you were right. His eyes were barely open and he wasn't in the mood right now, but he thought that the only way he could get comfort from you, was giving you pleasure. The issue could be solved if the two of you just talked about the nature of your relationship, but you never did. So you kept letting Kovacs get into your bed and sleep with you whenever he asked, but when things got heated in his bedroom, you sneaked out in the middle of the night, leaving him alone and cold.
You could give him some affection or sleep in his bed if he asked you to, but you preferred to avoid it, keeping a safe distance is something you learned from pain. Of course, that's something Takeshi couldn't guess, the same way you couldn't guess how strong his feelings for you were getting, how he felt empty every time he woke up and you weren't next to him, how much it hurt when he had to pretend he didn't see you leaving. Something you ignored, for your own safety, was how it seemed like the envoy was always finding excuses to be in your room, knowing damn well you couldn't muster the courage to ask him to leave.
- What is this? - he asked, finding the book still lying on your bed.
- The Catcher in the Rye. Sometimes I keep the antiques for a while before selling them.
Takeshi was well aware of your “job” smuggling antiques, that's how he figured your abilities could help him with his investigation and asked you to work with him. You weren't the type to say no to a job, so you agreed. Back then, you never thought you would end up in this situation. He asked some questions about the book, and then about other books, and then you started rambling about books, and about antiques, and about your job… And that's how Tak fell asleep, listening to your soothing voice talking about something you loved. He felt warm inside.
Eventually you stopped talking and fell asleep yourself, the weight of Tak’s body over yours felt good, warm. About eight hours later, when you woke up, that weight felt like a giant rock over you, and you figured he wouldn't wake up so early. Honestly you didn't want to wake him up, you thought he deserved a good rest after everything he's been through in the last couple of weeks.
Nonetheless, you were hungry and needed to pee, so you tried, as carefully as you could, sneak out of the bed without waking up Kovacs. As soon as you moved, his grip on you tightened, rubbing his head on you and growling.
- No. - he spoke, mostly still asleep - Don't leave.
- It'll be quick, I'll come back.
- Promise?
- I promise.
The grip on you loosened and you got out of bed to do what you needed to do. As soon as you came back, Tak snuggled close to you again, and that's basically how you spent the day. The envoy slept for about twenty hours straight, you stayed there, watching him sleep, running your fingers through his hair, reading your book, the furthest from the bed you went was the bathroom and you never spent too much time away.
When Kovacs finally woke up, head resting on your chest again, he looked deep into your eyes, his were still heavy with sleep.
- Thank you for taking care of me.
Absolutely in love with his accent switch ❤️
