Hello, it's me - back with more Ineffable Spawn. Since it was brought up in the last posts - more elaboration on the factions! So let's get onto them I suppose.
They are the same as in the base game (so, Korblox, Darkage, Redcliff, Splintered Skies and the Church of the True Eye) but each of them has very different relations with the eldritch and how they go about dealing with it.
Let's start with the Korblox Administration. Korblox is very militant on trying to crush out any shred of eldritch life, and to maintain a normal population of 100% mortals. This lead to the original sealing of Icedagger using a large scale sigil of Amzerathoth, and the pushing out of all of his followers to the mountain of Azurewrath. Those that become awakened are often discriminated against, leading to many people who are awakened hiding away their forms and the sigils they use to keep it so. Despite this militance, Korblox did also directly lead to the creation of Medkit or the Herald of Starlight - a bid to trap Venomshank - who had recently moved into the area. This did succeed, and Medkit was taken to be raised as a mortal in Blackrock, while Venomshank was left sealed in a distant valley (he would later by released by Zuka however).
Next is the Darkage Clan, which is the polar opposite to Korblox. Darkage was an organisation originally created by the King in Yellow, (yes THAT King in Yellow) or the Herald of Dreams, or any of his other twenty titles, which he now currently rules with an iron fist alongside his adoptive sibling - Der Sandtmann. Everyone in Darkage is forced to watch a showing of the King in Yellow (the cursed play from the original book), which often leads to the unlocking of one's true form. Almost everyone in Darkage is awakened, and the King himself will hold a showing of his play every year, often going all out for special occasions like centennials or decade markers. Darkage is working with Redcliff as the King sees the Church as a threat to him and his siblings - as well as hearing rumours that Medkit is under there control. (Long story short the King sees himself as responsible for the other Night Spawn as the eldest sibling)
Speaking of Redcliff - the Redcliff Wranglers are generally put off by the idea of the eldritch, but also understand that it is a part of life. A lot of people were awakened by the Scorch, so it would be foolish for them to be as strict as Korblox. In fact, a lot of Spawn have infiltrated their ranks as they believe that the Church presents a true threat to them and wish to help destroy it, or at least keep Lost Temple's spawn out of its grasp. There are also many members who are sympathetic towards the eldritch, such as Grappling Hook, which... well.
That leads us onto the Church of the True Eye. I haven't quite decided exactly what's going on there - but Father Overseer either claims to be, or claims to be descended from, a being that is more powerful than all the current great old ones, which is said to have the goal of remaking the world as an iddilic paradise. One of the ways he secures his power is through his control of Scythe, or the Fury of Midnight. Scythe is a Dark Spawn that Father Overseer found when she was still young, and took the fangs of her true form to give himself control over her if needs be - he then raised her as his loyal follower. Originally, Father Overseer managed to find his way into the realm of the watchers and learnt of how to control eldritch beings (using true names is well known, control using teeth, fangs or horns is less so). Overall, the Church is very accepting of those that awaken, as Father Overseer sees the use of many forms in the field of battle.
Last, but not least, is the Knights of the Splintered Skies. Splintered Skies has not changed much since its creation as a group of devotees to Windforce, though now has more structure and forms what little governance Playgrounds has. They largely don't care about the eldritch, if you're awakened, you're awakened, if you're not you're not - though most members are. The Herald of Lightning takes a strong position in its ranks, and Ban Hammer or the Herald of Thunder also did before moving to Banlands.
There is probably more organisations that follow Firebrand and those that inhabit Banlands with Ban Hammer, but I think they're generally less important. But yeah, major faction stuff.
I see what you did with Grappling Hook and Scythe vro 😭/nm
Anyways yay! More worldbuilding! Gotta love to see it.
Tfw the eldritch god you worked so hard to trap gets freed by Some Guy:
I don't care if its "not original" or whatever. I always like the trope of "one group likes the supernatural, one group doesn't, and one group is neutral". It shows all sides, and thus everyone participating/reading such an AU should be satisfied :)
Also, I can't remember if I commented on this last time, but I like the titles you've given folks as well! The Herald of Starlight...the Fury of Midnight...who thinks of these things? You do, apparently. And I'm so glad you do-
Can't believe you got me cheering for the King in phucking Yellow. No matter the AU, Medkit deserves better than both the Church and Blackrock. Change my mind/lh
Playground not really caring if you're a mortal or not is...oddly refreshing? I didn't quite expect it, but it just sorta fits.
