KonKata Fic
Okay folks, here it is. The afore-promised KonKata “Post Battle Makeout” fic, as prompted by @Peggaboo.
It’s about 1000 words, so I’m going to have a Read-More, but I hope you enjoy it. Don’t be afraid to give comments! (Note, I am my own editor so I apologize for any typos or such. Thanks for you patience).
~~~~Â Â ~~~~Â Â ~~~~
Hijikata Toshizo could taste blood in his mouth. Â He swiped a hand across his mouth to try to wipe away the taste, but the sharp copper bite remained on his tongue. Â With a growl he spat away the wretched sensation.
It wasnt a very clean or easy breakup.
Your Name
*Happy Birthday to @kondo-hijikata! I hope you like this fluffy fic! Enjoy!*
“If we don’t tell you our name, your coffee is on us.” Isami Kondo read the words beneath the register silently, a small smile forming on his face. The coffee shop was empty, and this was his only chance to finally talk to the man behind the counter.
He watched the purple-eyed barista take his order, admiring him write his first name with perfect penmanship on the paper cup.
“Two dollars and fifty cents.” The man’s voice matched his face—smooth and fine. Isami handed him a five-dollar bill, two fingers swiping against the palm of the man’s hand. The barista’s hand flinched, but he neither let go or pulled back.
Isami cleared his throat as he stuffed a dollar and fifty cents into the tip jar. “Excuse me, shouldn’t my coffee be free?” he said, smirking.
The man narrowed his eyes, quirking an eyebrow at him. Isami stared back, his heart racing with each passing awkward second. Right then and there, it was clear that the man could not have a bad expression.
“What the hell do you mean?” the barista snapped. Isami laughed nervously, already regretting what he just did. He loved coming to this coffee shop—its quaint location and charming employees, particularly the long-haired one who may or may not be pissed off at him right now.
“Your sign.” He pointed at the little sticker on the register, flashing him his pearly whites.
“Dammit,” the barista grunted, rolling his eyes to the ceiling. “I told Heisuke to take that shit down.”
Waving a hand at him, Isami shook his head fervently. “You know what, forget it. I’ll just leave.”
“Wait,” the man said, his face pinched as he crossed his arms. “Why are you bringing this up now? You’ve been coming here for weeks and now you want your coffee for free?”
Isami felt his insides burning, certain that his cheeks were bright red. “Y-You know me?”
The man’s face softened, releasing his arms and taking the cup from the counter. He went to the back and filled the cup with coffee, squirting two shots of hazelnut and adding a spoonful of sugar. Isami’s eyes shot up in bewilderment. “You know my order?”
Handing him the hot cup of coffee, the man snorted. “Of course I do.” He opened the register, taking out three dollars out of it. He reached into the tip jar, fishing out a dollar. “Here, your coffee is free.”
Frowning, Kondo put his hands up, refusing the money. “I don’t want my money back.”
“So why did you bring it up?”
“I just wanted you tell me your name. I know Heisuke, Hajime, Chizuru, and even Keisuke—who hardly works days. But you... you’ve never introduced yourself at all, Toshi.”
The barista’s eyes widened, mouth ajar with a silent gasp. “Y-You know me?”
The bell jingled and both men turned to the door, watching a young man walk in, his eyes plastered to his phone. They were no longer alone, and Isami stepped to the side to let the man order.
“We’re closed, get out,” Toshi ordered, pointing at the door.
The young man looked up with a dumbfounded expression. “It’s like, two-thirty, dude.”
Toshi sighed and handed the young man Isami’s coffee. “Here, now get out.”
“Is this non-fat?” The man took a sip, smacking his lips as he tasted it.
“Yes!” Toshi and Isami said at the same time.
“Now go enjoy your hazelnut coffee, young man!” Isami ordered like he was the manager. The young man nodded, waving at them with a middle finger.
When the door closed, Toshi and Isami stared at each other in awkward silence.
“I just wanted to talk to you, that’s all,” Isami said, his tone apologetic. “I thought the sign was a good way to break the ice.”
Toshi chuckled lightly, then laughed harder when Isami joined him. “What a funny coincidence. Even though I had already remembered you the second time you came in, I still asked for your name because I hoped you would ask for mine.”
They laughed again, this time, Isami could see a tinge of pink on Toshi’s cheeks. “Now I wished I had asked sooner then maybe we’d be on our third date by now.”
Toshi covered his mouth, his ears a dark red. Kondo grinned, amused that he made the cute barista blush hard.
“Well, I get off at six, if you want to come by later.”
Kondo nodded, waving at Toshi as he exited the coffee shop. After walking a few steps away, he glanced at his watch, wincing at the time. “God, I wish it was six already.” He walked back toward his office, beaming from ear to ear, knowing he was not going to concentrate at work at all. He looked at his watch again, shaking his head, his heart fluttering in anticipation. “It can’t be helped.”
“This bath is too damn hot.” - “This is why we can’t do cute things. You complain too much.” KONKATA!!!
Hijikata was stressed.
KondĹŤ was aware that this was the case, but what he didn’t know was just how bad the stress had become until the other captains began approaching him about it.Â
Souji whined that Hijikata was mothering him too much, and the two apparently had engaged in a battle of wills that Souji ultimately lost, as he had done what Hijikata had ordered. Shinpachi, on behalf of Harada and Heisuke, had come to complain about how Hijikata was being a stickler for curfew and was doling out extra chores as punishment. Even SaitĹŤ, who normally was more tolerant of Hijikata’s moodiness, had mentioned in his straightforward way that it appeared “relaxation would benefit Hijikata fukuchĹŤ.”Â
So…this one got away from me. I hope you enjoy!~~~~~~~~~~~KondĹŤ slid the shoji open and stepped into the familiar and comforting room as a sigh whispered out of his mouth. He had expected to be greeted warmly as usual, but he was instead welcomed with silence. KondĹŤ gazed toward the corner where a desk was situated. Sitting in front of it, with a completely straight back, was Hijikata. His brush was moving furiously down the paper, and KondĹŤ closed his eyes with a quiet sigh.Â
Something must have happened while he was gone for him to receive such a cold reception from Hijikata. He snorted softly with an amused shake of his head. It didn’t surprise him that he would have to ease Hijikata’s discomfort—it was a role he had fallen easily into and was glad to fill. After all, Hijikata did the same for him, though he had never had explicitly said so to his Vice Commander.
“Toshi.” The name rolled off his lips in a reverent tone.
