It turned out Sirius’s plan was stretching and a lot of it.
“You were so tense while you had your flare-up,” he said gently. “So we’re going to warm all those muscles up and get them moving again before we do anything too taxing.”
Remus didn’t argue. He trusted Sirius’s judgement.
The stretching took a lot more out of him than he’d expected it would, and by the end of their session he was a sweaty mess flat on his back on the crash mats. Sirius leaned over him upside-down with a huge grin on his face.
“Feeling it are you?” he snickered. Remus had just enough energy to stick his tongue out at him, which only made Sirius’s amusement grow. “Do you need help in the shower?” He asked, waggling his eyebrows suggestively.
“Won’t James and Peter be cross about you using the company facilities incorrectly?” Remus smirked, closing his eyes as he prepared himself to get to his feet.
“Only if you snitch on me,” Sirius whispered into his ear.
The sudden closeness of Sirius's voice made him jump, and in doing so he smacked his forehead against Sirius’s.
“Oww!” Sirius yelped, falling backwards onto his bottom, clutching his head.
“I’ve got the accident book!” Peter cried from the door into the gym. Sirius groaned, and Remus didn’t think it was because his head hurt.
“What happened?” Peter asked as he flicked to the next empty page.
“We bumped heads,” Sirius said vaguely.
“Yes, I saw that, as did the camera’s,” Peter said, pointing the end of his pen towards the big circular camera in the corner above them.
“What led up to the incident?”
“I was checking Remus was okay,” Sirius said at the same time as Remus blurted out. “He wanted to shag in the showers.”
Peter’s face was a picture.
“Snitch,” Sirius hissed, but couldn’t hide the smile pulling at the corners of his mouth.
“Sirius Orion Black!” Peter scolded. “Toilet duty for a week!”
“Damn it!”
“Well, that’s what you get. We all promised this was our business and not a place for private life. It’s bad enough that your boyfriend is training with you.” Peter drew himself up to his full height and said very solemnly. “If you continue with this lewd behaviour, I will have no choice but to inform Mrs Potter of your indiscretions.”
Sirius’s face lost all traces of mirth.
“I’ll be good,” he promised. “Come on, Remus, you need to have a shower, and I have a stack of paperwork that needs doing.” Sirius reached out and took both of Remus’s hands, helping him to his feet. Peter nodded his approval as Remus headed off to the changing rooms, but once his back was turned, Sirius sprinted across the gym floor and stole a chaste kiss from Remus, winking at him as he jogged backwards towards his office. Remus rolled his eyes. Sirius had wriggled his way into his heart, and he loved every second he had with him.
Once he was home, he kicked his shoes off and settled onto the sofa with a cup of tea, a packet of chocolate hobnobs and his newest smutty book. He had enough time to read a few chapters before Sirius came over, and he was excited to get stuck in.
Barely one sentence later, the bell rang.
“Damn it,” he cursed at the empty room as he got up and buzzed Sirius in. But when he opened the door, Sirius wasn’t on the other side; it was Lily, and she was in tears.
“Remus, can I stay with you for a while?”
He immediately flung the door open wide and let her in. No way was he refusing his best friend refuge when she needed him, not after all she’d done for him over the years. He got her sat down, wrapped her in a fluffy blanket and pressed a fresh cup of tea into her hands.
“What happened?”
