Thirty-six hours late. That has to be a new record for a man who was what, less than three hours away, upon last contact. Pure unadulterated ire seems to harass her brows as she is wrangled from the garage and led down the mansionâs driveway. If this was another one of Michaelâs asinine stunts, she would scantly be able to control the urge to thwap him with her wrench.Â
Their eyes lock through the thin sheet of glass when the officer asks her to identify the man in the back seat. Bonnieâs teeth grit hard, shifting with the rest of her delicate jaw to emit a silenced breath of frustration. It was just like him to be detained by the local authorities! She could only begin to imagine the number of laws he must have broken or bent.Â
Feeling the familiar twinge of resentment at the sight of his âhappy-go-lucky act-â, she turns to the uniformed man. âNo, officer. I have never seen this man in my life.â He wonât be able to âcuteâ his way out of this mess if she had anything to say about it. Especially, when he returned sans Kitt.Â
âYa sure, Miss? He says he works here.â The befuddled lawman questions. He glances down at the manâs I.D. âClaims heâs--- Michael Knight.â He reads aloud. âWhy donât you give âem another look?â In truth, his petition was made only for the soul purpose of not having to haul the prisoner back across the city. Processing Knight would take hours away from his own family. A family he sorely missed after an eternal twelve hour shift.Â
Heady annoyance drives turquoise orbs in a succinct circle at the insistence of the officer. Yet, with a huff of air, she complies. Her slender frame is lent into the driverâs side window. Like two heat-seeking missiles, her eyes fixate upon on the passenger in the backseat with firm, unwavering commitment.Â
He had better have a good explanation for this.
Bonnieâs heart gives off a pitying titter as she once again meets Michaelâs doe-eyed gaze. There is a silent, bidding entreaty etched upon the azure veneers peering back at her. If only the cybernetic tech didnât love him, she could let him sit in a cold cell until Devon returned. If only that traitorous heart of herâs wasnât so attached to him, she could enforce punishments with more exacting ease. Her resolute desire to gift the officer one further denial is shattered upon the crest of her lower-lip.Â
âItâs slowly coming back to me now--â She begins with poise. Casting another meaningful glance at Michael, she concedes. âI vaguely remember seeing his face around here. You can leave him with me.âÂ
A tired grin appears on the officerâs face at her acceptance of the task and her vague claim to the man. âWould ya be willing to sign the paperwork and to post his bail?âÂ
Another sigh rumbles past the mechanicâs lips as she pulls out her own wallet. âSure.â She accepts the paperwork and leaves her John Hancock. âHow much?â She pays the hefty fine and waits for the prisoner to be freed.Â
âSon,â the older officer starts, âdo you feel safe being left here with this lady?â He asks before accepting her money.Â
