#knacker

Presenting the final sculpture! Allow me to properly introduce Knacker, the Kobold Trapper. Although, they would technically be a half kobold, since their parents were are a half-elf who met a kobold separated from his pack (D&D kobold gender and sexuality is weird. Look it up sometime!). Unlike their kobold papa, Knacker is a loner by choice and begrudging adventures with others for money.

I got tired of the wood block base so I mixed in a SURPRISE THIRD clay time: air dry clay! It is built over top of a foil-wrapped wood panel and completed with a lot of dry-brushed paint. I had to make a false foot or two to make the footprints.

Their hair was made of shredded yarn sprinkled over glue. Not sure why but I juts much preferred they have hair rather than a scaled head. Perhaps that and the ears help hint at their mixed heritage.

In Welsh and Cornish folklore, a Knocker is a fey creature that resembles a stunted, deformed human. They stand around two feet tall, and have large heads, long arms and twisted, wrinkled faces. They wear the garb of a miner, and are said to be quite the nuisance.

Their name comes from their habit of knocking on the walls of mines. This is often heard before a cave-in; some think the knocker causes the incident, while others see them as more of an omen. Welsh and Cornish miners brought stories of the Knockers over to the United States in the 1820s, where they became known as Tommyknockers.

I have been meaning to catch up on posting sculptures but the year(s) got away from me.

Anyway, this one would be new to you even if they are old to me!

This sculpture was a confluence of a few things. I had an idea for an androgynous, stern kobold. I wanted to make another of my armatures derived from my old foil foil sculptures from childhood. I wanted to reuse the knife I had designed from broken pocket knife scissors. I wanted to try a cantilevered armature support. In the end they would end up too cracked and off balance for that last idea to fully work, but you will see I gave it my best try.
