February 18 - Today, we remember Dedan Kimathi, the Kenyan freedom fighter and leader of the Kenya Land and Freedom Army (Mau Mau), who was hanged by the British colonial government on February 18, 1957. His body was buried in an unmarked grave whose location has never been publicly disclosed. Despite international appeal, the British government refuses to declassify information about his death.
Kimathi led the armed resistance against colonial rule, fighting for land, justice, and self-determination together with the oppressed—peasants, workers, the landless, squatters, and the urban poor against British Colonialism. [link]
