Moonlight streamed across the cluttered dorm room floor, piles of clothes scattered around the wooden bed. A cool glow of ocean blue radiated through the warmth of the blankets that wrapped around Lance as he stared out through the window, stars glistening in his eyes.
Ever since he met that boy. That stupid mullet-headed boy he has glowed. A soft haze of blue hovering over his sun-kissed skin. Why? Why now? How does that stupid smirk and violet eyes set off the warm glow of his heart?
It's not like he has never glowed before. There has been plenty of times his heart has fallen for the pretty smile that has crossed his way, his blue glow shining through his skin. But what goes up must come down. To say he’s been heartbroken a few times is an understatement. His mama has always said he’s been too quick to fall in love. Maybe that's true? Can you blame him? All Lance has ever wanted is to feel the bright glow of his heart stream through his body with the one he loves. Their two colours blending to become one.
But now all he wants to do is fade away.
There’s a knock on the door, the clock ticking over to 2:01 am.
‘Who the hell would be up at this time?’ Lance thought, slipping out of the comfort of his bed, his robe loosely around his body as he made his way to the door. A dim glow of yellow streamed across the wooden floor as he passed his roommate and best friend's room, making sure he didn’t wake him up.
Lance and Hunk have been best friends since they were in diapers, the two being neighbours only strengthening this bond. All through from prep up to the end of senior year they stuck together, Hunk always being there for him like a brother would. Even now, living on campus at the same college was a miracle to which they were both beyond happy. Hunk has been there through all Lance’s lows, and Lance being there for Hunk as well.
He still remembers the first time Hunk met his girlfriend, Shay. The way he glowed was so bright, Lance teared up. Not that he would admit that out loud. He was so happy for his best friend, finding the one that makes him shine as bright as he does.
But sometimes, Lance gets a bit jealous.
Jealous of what he’ll never have.
Keith stands outside a dorm room door, Lance’s dorm room, his fingers tucked away in the tight pockets of his jeans, his creamy skin setting off a dim red glow. He just needs to know. Needs to know what James said was true. What everyone had been saying was true.
Its been a week since the rumours spread about Lance’s ‘new crush’. It didn't take long for the rumour to cross his path, Altea Tech not being big on keeping secrets. When he did hear, Keith, well, he wouldn’t say he reacted well. Feelings are a weird thing and to hear the guy you have been crushing since junior year might like you back? It was a bit overwhelming.
Now he’s standing outside his crush’s dorm for some god damn reason, knocking on the hardwood in the hopes to…
Most of him hope he’s asleep. Too entrapped within sweet dreams to be able to hear Keith’s tapping plea for him to answer. But a small part of him hopes, for some reason, he's awake. That he will answer. That Keith could see the small freckles that dust across his face, the deep ocean eyes that twinkle when he laughs, and his smile. Oh, his smile that could outshine anyone’s glow.
A soft tap of wood echoed as Lance approached the door, a small groan leaving Lance’s lips as he opened the door. Words fell from his mind as he stared at the raven-haired boy in front of him, his eyes meeting his.
He should have known it was him. Should have noticed the warm glow of red slipping through the cracks underneath his feet.
“What do you want?” Lance hissed.
Lance huffed, taking a step outside, the door closing behind him.
“You want to talk at 2 am in the morning?”
“I didn’t expect you to answer!” Keith whisper-yelled.
“Then why did you come?” Lance asked, heat seeping through his voice as he took a step closer.
“I don’t know!” Keith snapped back, the once red haze around him disappearing from sight.
“You don’t know? The Great Keith Kogane is stumped by a simple ass question,” Lance taunted, Keith flinching at his words. Keith opened to say something, anything, but nothing came out, Lance sighing.
“I’m not in the mood for this. So if it’s not life-threatening I’m just going to…”
Lance stepped back, his hands glossing over the door handle when Keith reached out.
Keith stared in awe as a bright blue glow radiated at his touch. It lit up the dark hall where they stood, Lance’s body stiffening.
“Lance,” Keith’s voice echoing around them.
Lance stood frozen, gritting his teeth to stop the tears threatening to fall.
“Now you know,” Lance barely whispered, shrugging his shoulder away.
Lance turned around, his eyes glistening with the fresh tears, staring straight at him. Keith didn’t know how to tell him. How to express everything he’s feeling. Keith hated speaking about himself. Never knowing the right words. Lance always seemed to know. That’s one of the many things Keith loved about him.
“Please, just… if that's all you came for…. Just let me…” Lance let out a sob, backing away into the door behind him.
Keith, with all his strength, took a step forward, closing the distance between them until it was barely anything.
Keith, ever so gently, raised his hand, resting it on Lance’s jaw. His thumb softly grazed across his cheek, the warmth of his breath mixing with his. Even in the dimly lit hall, Lance’s eyes sparkled, Keith, watching how Lance bit his lip as he stared into his eyes.
“Keith,” Lance sighed before their lips met. An explosion of light erupted inside of them, energy flowing around them as Keith surged forward, kissing furiously. His hands clenched at his chest, gripping the fabric tightly as a bright blue glow radiated through. Lance keened at his touch, Keith pushing him up against the door as he kissed him deeper. A mix of red and blue swirled around them until they blended into one.
