I always loved Amy lol
kittyorleans replied to your post āok little women was really really good but if hordes of people start...ā
Ok youāre so right that the movie made the manuscript burning so much worse than the original and it is the ultimate sin. And sheās annoying as a kid. But also consider: Amy March is the best and anyone who has ever felt extreme pressure to be the smart one in their family or felt overshadowed by a sibling gets that.
Forget MBTI the true personality test is if youāre Amy or Jo March.
Not to reignite the AmyJo wars that have been fought at various levels of intensity since 1868, but in my experience identification with Amy or Jo is extremely powerful, instant, and irrevocable.Ā
Especially if you grew up with Little Women as a constant comforting, yet ominous presence in your life... that book Knows Your Inner Fears, Jealousies, and Resentments. It understands MORE THAN YOU WANT IT TO.Ā
It lays bare an uncomfortable amount of your soul the second you are bold enough to say āAmy is my favorite :)ā or vice versa in casual conversation.

kittyorleans replied to your post āso on like⦠i guess a narrative level, toy story 4 had a certain...ā
...what happened
in this essay i will-
[all of the spoilers]
OKAY SO
basic plot: woody loves bonnie but sheās doesnāt play with him very often. when he sees how upset she is about not being allowed to take a toy with her to kindergarten orientation, he sneaks along in her backpack and when she is, for the moment, neglected by the teacher, he gathers supplies out of a trash can and stealthily gets them to her. out of the supplies she makes forky, her new favorite toy, out of a spork, googly eyes, a pipe cleaner, etc. forky does not think he is a toy, tho, bc he came out of the trash, so woody basically dedicates his life to keeping forky out of the trash can
SOON
bonnie and her parents go on a road trip for some last sweet, sweet freedom before bonnie has to go to kindergarten for realsies. after many foiled attempts at throwing himself away, forky throws himself out the rv window. woody goes after him, convinces forky that heās a toy not trash, all seems to be well, and then woody sees bo peepās lamp in an antique store window, but no bo peep. he goes inside to check it, is kidnapped by a doll who wants his voice... player... thing bc hers is broken and sheās convinced if her voice worked the antique store ownerās granddaughter would love her and play with her forever etc etc. she also kidnaps forky and a lot of the action drama is trying to get forky back
the emotional drama is, hey, hereās bo peep back, except sheās her own action heroine now, a big strong china doll who donāt need no kid of her own bc she and a handful of other toys live in a playground where they get played with by a bunch of kids for a few hours and are planning to hitch a ride in a traveling carnival for more of the same. woody is horrified bc he canāt imagine not having a kid and bo is vaguely implied to be doing this out of emotional trauma after being left in the antique store for years
EXCEPT
at the end of the movie, woody (whose personality, i remind you, is largely based on LOYALTY and DEDICATION TO HIS KID, even when his kid doesnāt play with him anymore) decides to stay with the carnival and bo peep! where they help other toys get picked! but not themselves! bc theyāre over that or whatever!
so, yeah
in a purely narrative sense, okay, sure, weāve come full circle. woody has gone from having a wholesale personal breakdown over being aĀ lost toy to choosing to be a lost toy. fine, heāsĀ āgrown past it.ā i get what theyāre saying
but on EVERY OTHER LEVEL it feels like a slap in the face. this is the SAME TOY that has gone through extraordinary circumstances to get back to his kid, from falling out of the car and then a moving truck in the first movie to escaping from a freakin INCINERATOR in the third. he always goes back to his kid. his kid didnāt even want him anymore in the third movie but he STILL WENT BACK. he DOESNāT ABANDON HIS KID and he DOESNāT ABANDON HIS FRIENDS
but hey! the love interest is back! sorry toys iāve been best friends with for 10+ years, my love interest is back and while avoiding eye contact and in a forced casual tone she says she doesnāt need aĀ kid bc there are lotsĀ of kids that she occasionally allows to play with her, which is obviously coming from a healthy emotional place, so iām going to abandon my post now, okay? okay!
itās the same shit, different day: platonic relationships are less important and meaningful than and should be pushed aside for romantic ones, which is a plot narrative that i hate hate hateĀ and it feels weird and out of place in a kids movie
i know part of why iām upset is bc iām sensitive to friend groups breaking up, but part of why that is is bc iāve never had so much as a crush. i never wanted to get married until, idk, three months ago? and thatās more to do with wanting committed companionship than wanting sex or romance, so the endless repetition ofĀ āplatonic relationship(s) abandoned for romantic relationshipā always bugs me. iām worried thatās going to be me. i find it hard enough to make friends and maintain those friendships without wondering if someday those friends will find significant others and just fade out of my life
Replies and boring food/diet talk under the cut peace.emoji
@wandererriha (it wonāt let me tag you???) Good to hear from someone who got some good out of it!Ā If I end up giving it a go Iām planning on the first week being before my semester starts just in case I am realĀ cranky for exactly that reason.Ā Iām also kind of scared Iāll for sure learn that my familyās wheat issues have caught up to me at last...but as much as I love apple fritters I think Iād love not having constant drainage (tmi sorryyyyy) in the back of my throat every day.
@kittyorleans Oh for sure, I can see where it would be a Bad Idea for someone with a history of EDs.Ā Luckily my food issues mostly stem from learned generational habits (that Iāve been working to unlearn the past 3-4 years) and never really having been taught portion control as a kid (which Iāve been working to learn in the same time frame!).Ā But good to hear someone else saw the kind of allergy related results that Iād like to see.Ā Iām in it more for curiosity/info gathering than weight loss.
@majorgenerally Dang, thatās good to know! I never really had acne or pimples until I was 24, and now I get breakouts a couple of times a year. Donāt get me wrong, Iām definitely not complaining as Iāve been super lucky in the skin department, but Iām just kind of curious! Yogurt and cheese aside, I donāt eat a lot of dairy though.Ā Honestly, like I said above, Iām considering it mostly from a curiosity stand point

Writer meme! I was tagged by @sous-le-sauleā. Thank you!
1. How many works in progress do you have?
None currently (unless you count a fanfic I was writing for a fandom Iāve lost most of my interest in, but Iāve about given that one up for lost). If I wasnāt on a writing hiatus right now, Iād have one WIP, but I make a rule to never start a second until Iāve finished the first.
2. Do you/would you write fanfiction?
Yep. Swore up and down for years I never would, because I really wanted to write originally and I didnāt want toĀ āspoilā my creativity. Then I gave in and, guess whatāit spoiled my creativity! Hopefully Iāll get it back some day...
3. Do you prefer paper books or ebooks?
Paper books by far. Ebooks are cold, soulless shadows of their true selves.
4. When did you start writing?
Sometime before I can remember. When I was a wee small child, I would write stories down, and then give up on thisĀ āforming letters into wordsā thing, and just draw squiggly lines.
5. Do you have someone you trust who you share your work with?
My sister (@doctortreklockā). She helps with plot devices and can sometimes seeĀ āobviousā routes for the story to take that Iāve spent too long sitting inside of it to see.
6. Where is your favourite place to write?
Anywhere, really, but I avoid places with lots of distractions. I can tune them out by listening to music and applying myself to writing, but itās generally more difficult than if Iām chilling on my sofa. And I generally prefer inside to outside, simply because of sun-laptop glare and battery life problems.
7. Favourite book as a child?
I really loved the Warriors series by (the authors comprising) Erin Hunter.
8. Writing for fun or publication?
Both, ideally, some day. For now, itās for fun, and the stories I like the best I format, print, and bind myself so I can *feel* published.
9. Have you taken writing classes?
Hahaha no. My personality vehemently disagrees with anyone trying to tell me how to be creativeĀ āproperly.ā
10. What inspired you to write?
Havenāt the foggiest, really. I just really love it, and always have. It probably had to do with reading so many books in my formative years, though.
Tagging @not-a-space-alienā and @kittyorleansā if they havenāt done it yet. :)
Hey so I just published an ebook on kindle (so it can be bought for 1.99 on amazon) and it's called "Ballad of the Sea and Sand" by Kitty Orleans. There's a fat mermaid in it and she's a beautiful, wonderful character and I know earlier y'all were looking for fat characters. It's a fantasy love story, but the only warning I have is that there are one or two cases of ableist language like "id--t"
