Damien reunites with Pip after 4 years.

••• basically in the little au I’ve made (which this story takes place in) theyre all in middle school, specifically in 7th grade. Damien and Pip are 12 here. Same with the other characters (ex: the main five, wendy, craig’s gang etc).

I mostly made them all in Middle school because I have no idea how to write 4th graders + I thought it would make more sense if they were older for the stories.

I never thought I would be able to say that- I thought I wouldn’t finish A.E until December.

Anyway, I names the new Tallest, Tallest Pound Cake because I thought that was funny. Plus they are a former food drone so them having a food related name just makes sense.

Originally, this fic was just a concept. As all fanfics start out. I know that ZaDr will never be canon (honestly, thank god. Im glad it’s not canon for many reasons). But. The thought of “Well, what if it canon?” And “What if IZ was a story about traumatized queer youths?”

Plus, I also wondered how different Invader Zim would have been if a different person wrote it. I saw one of my mutual in laws mention that once.

And that’s how I started planning out A.E. I only had a few scenes in my head. I just needed to connect them together. So that’s what I did.

Oh, and fun fact: if the Florpus saga was an actual movie, “I’m just a kid” by simple plan would play at the end while theyre eating at the table. Then the song would continue to play as the epilogue would be explained. And then the credits would roll

I feel like i gained a deeper appreciation for Zim as a character, not only thanks to writing this fic but also thanks to my friend Oli. Also, shout out to him for helping me out with this fic :3 he’s the reason the enemy kiss scene in chapter 20 exists. Also, shout out to my other friends as well :D

I think one of my favorite things when it came to writing this fic was making up parodies of real life stuff and adding tons references to things. For example, BrB Suicide, the band Dib was listening to in chapter 5 is actually a reference to older ZaDr fanfic from 2006. Which was also one of my inspirations for this fanfic, in terms of the “emo romance” vibe. I am SUCKER for 2000s emo/scene ZaDr type stuff. I hope I did my best at recapturing that type of vibe here.

But I also just had fun exploring the characters themselves. I did project bits and pieces of myself (ex: Zim being on guard and flinching upon being touched) when it came to writing this to, tho- but that’s expected.

Oh, the funny thing is that I’m starting to learn Spanish so yeah. :D Anyway, I loved writing this fic so much. I hope you guys enjoyed reading as much as I did writing it. :)

I’ll probably A.E related oneshots, however this fic will not be getting a big sequel, sorry guys. A.E is just one of those stories that doesn’t need one.

I have met so many wonderful people thanks to this fic. I have received so much beautiful fanart and I appreciate it very much <3 I can also thank this fic for… my knowledge on oddly specific things in Detroit. Hopefully I can go there someday.
