This movie gave me highly unrealistic expectations for love. Also this started an ongoing obsession with Jane Austen novels, film adaptations, television series, and web series. This story is worth all six hours it takes to watch it. I love the family drama and sisterly love. I love the slowburn romance. I love how these two change each other for the better. Elizabeth has to learn to stop being so judgmental and how to allow others to be flawed. She learns that sometimes people do change for the better, they just need to be given a chance. And sometimes people aren’t as cut and dry as you think they are. Darcy learns to be less rude and stuffy. He learns to not be so haughty to people and to not interfere in his friends love lives. His friends need the room to make their own choices and possible mistakes. Also don’t tell someone that you hate their entire family and only like them begrudgingly before asking them to marry you. It’s a shockingly ineffective move. Also the scenery is great, the music is great, and the acting is great. As I’ve gotten older, it’s also gotten a lot funnier. Anything involving Mr. Collins, Mr. Bennett, and Mrs. Bennett is riddled with humor. Darcy’s poor attempts at flirtation is peak cringe-humor and Lizzie’s wit is great. But most of all, this story is just so romantic. It’s rife with misunderstandings, broken hearts, grand romantic gestures, and selfless acts of kindness. It’s pacing is achingly slow which I love. By the time they get together, it’s a long time coming. Also this came out the year I was born. If you haven’t seen this, I highly recommend it. It’s more geared to the female crowd, but it’s good either way. Also the “wet shirt scene”. ‘Nuff said.
