My back to the sims 2 series #9
Today I learnt how to install the RLS light mod, terrain and road replacements and mirror pond mod. Gosh, it sure was frustrating because I needed to read all the instructions several times as I just couldn’t figure things out.
Mainly, I struggled with Radiance Light System, because even if it was simple to install with the scriptorium, I kept staring at the instructions and pondering about if I needed the shaders which weren’t installed with scriptorium. And what the hell was this file called userStartup.cheat?! The instruction told me to, “back it up”. and I was like, “okay, sooo, where is it? Surely not in the location mentioned there.”
Then I googled about it and learnt that it’s a handy way to use cheats etc. But I still wondered, “where the hell is that file?” until, maybe after an hour when I read the instruction once again and I see it reads, “if you don’t have it, use the one provided in the zip file.” And then I felt an urge to facepalm. All the time I kept believing it was a file that already existed somewhere made me blind to the said part of the instructions.
Another problem I encountered with RLS mod was that I wasn’t sure if it was installed or not. I couldn’t tell the difference between it and Maxis light. So I had to uninstall and reinstall it couple of times just to try the different settings and get screenshots for comparison. Finally, I came to a conclusion that it is installed because outdoor shadows are stronger, but I’m still paranoid whether it changed the indoor lights. Or maybe I’m expecting something that this mod isn’t.
Another thing that I struggled with was the road mod. Honestly, it was super easy to install, just drop the files to download folder and that was it. However, the road overlay I needed to cover the lot road suddenly wasn’t anywhere to be found even if it was there a moment ago. I checked the misc category several times as I quit and run the game, but nope. I also moved the road mods to the main root folder thinking that maybe it stopped working after I placed them in the subfolder.
Until 20 minutes later it hit me… I’ve been looking into the wrong Misc. All that time I looked into the misc -> misc while I was supposed to look into the decorative -> misc.
What an overload of stupidity my day was.
