I continue to be absolutely fascinated with the art/fic event centering on a specific pairing from a specific fandom. I reblogged something about it a few days ago, but it's still fizzing away in the back of my brain.
I believe the event is still going to happen, but rebranded as "NSFW November" because the mods realized that "kink" included connotations that weren't in line with their beliefs.
Fanlore has a page discussing it. In addition to all the "consent must be obtained before, during, and after" stuff and all the weird rules about pre- and post-sexytimes, there's a lot of other ridiculous stuff. Such as "no men allowed." And you know that batshit thing the cultists have about "no characters previously depicted as children?" Yeah, that's in there, too. Not even as characters existing outside the sexytimes. Oh, and don't forget the bit where Vi is butch so you aren't allowed to "feminize" her. With a specific mention of "excessive makeup."
The more you read, the more WTF it gets. I'm wildly curious to know what things they would find acceptable once all the "problematic" kinks have been removed. Maybe the "kink" is premarital sex itself? The "Consensual Noncon" bit has a requirement that it be in an established relationship, but I kinda wonder if all the fics need to be an established relationship.
Yes, it's their event and they're allowed to set whatever rules they like; that isn't the issue here. The issue is how conservative extremism is continuing to invade fandom spaces and that there are a growing number of people who want to sterilize creativity so that only a few "safe" and "moral" options of expression are allowed. This shit's already running rampant out on the streets with book bannings and school curriculum restrictions. Watching people try and enforce it on fandom curdles the blood.
