In Praise of ... The King Penguin series had many imitators, in fact they imitated the German Insel series themselves. These little ‘In Praise Of ‘ series were published by Frederick Muller from the late 1940s onwards. During breeding season, king penguins display the most interesting courtship behavior. The male king penguin unfurls to his full height, raises his bill in air, and makes a loud trumpet-like call, signaling his availability to female king penguins. When a male and female penguin "click" they call, bow, strut, and shake their heads in something akin to a dance! They will then stand facing each other, rise up to their full heights, and relax their bodies.
