Standing 49 metres high on Kingsettle Hill is King Alfred's Tower, a folly designed by Henry Flitcroft for Henry Hoare II in 1772 and which now belongs to the National Trust. Surrounded by wildflower meadow, this triangular tower is believed to mark the site where King Alfred the Great rallied his troops in 878. In addition, the tower commemorates the accession of George III to the throne in 1760 and the end of the Seven Years War. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: 'Frome Minibuses' runs a service from Warminster to Mere (line 82) where you then catch the X4 heading for Bourton and alight at Zeals.
