Hey I want to tell you guys about a custom in most Hungarian high schools which is the awesome thing called “King Election”
Please tell me if you have this in your country too!
Okay so, it’s basically a competition between the junior grade classes. In my school, we chose a leader, a king elect who will be kinged if the class wins the competition. We chose a theme (superheroes, police, etc). My class chose the theme farmers. We make a film, the story is about the theme we chose and the main character is the king elect. It’s usually around 7 minutes long, so we have to pay attention to tell a whole story with as many jokes as we can under a very short time.
When the event starts, we bring food (cakes, cookies, sandwiches) to the other kids at school and make interesting programmes like games and we invite performers (dancers, sportsmen and all that) to entertain everyone. That is called campaign.
At the end of the event, we have a so called “joust”, like the finale of the competition. Each class marches in, one by one with their flag, to music and they perform a dance coreography (usually one that suits the theme). Then there’s some sort of competition, writing poems, playing games, the king elecet dances and sings and the classes get points for each task. The class that has the most points, wins the joust.
Then, the teachers and all the other kids at school vote for their favourite campaign. The class that has the most votes, wins the election and their leader is elected king of the school for the next year.
Sometimes, it’s not the same class who wins the election as the one that wins the joust. My class won the joust but was only second in the election. We still celebrated like crazy!
