FREE THOUGHTS & Questions on S1 E6 of The Bear: Ceres
okay so Richie and Sydney’s convo in Ceres: What’s going on?
The whole episode Richie is lamenting about the changing neighborhood, (bar closed down/ a Sweet Green being built across the street { something happening with Wicker, Pilsen I’m assuming their closed down Chicago haunts but that’s a guess})
The area is being gentrified no? That’s a bad thing (full stop).
When Richie is going through his spiel he says things are getting bad (essentially) but Syd counters that they are only different.
Is Sydney saying that gentrification is good or necessary? That’s what I’m picking up on and I don’t think that’s a stretch seeing as she (and the others ofc) built a fine establishment dinning restaurant in the middle of the hood lol.
( I have no clue about Chicago neighborhoods or if River North is actually considered the hood….but if windows are getting shot out in your area…. that seems like a universal hood indicator 🤷🏾♀️😂)
Also, I’m aware that this Richie’s projecting his fear or irrelevancy. The neighborhood is changing, his life is changing, he’s getting older; he doesn’t want to be left behind blah blah but I’m not talking about that right now.
Would love to hear everybody’s thoughts.
