Hi there! I was wondering if you have any tips on keeping a tank well-heated when the room temp is freezing? I have a 25w heater in my 5g for Sunday, but the heating in my house is non-existent and my bedroom is icy cold! I've turned the heater up to 82F to compensate as the tank is open-topped atm (I managed to break the glass lid, oops), but the tank temp is currently sitting around the lower end of the happy green area. If it persists, would a 50w work, or would that be overkill? Thank you!
A 50W is not overkill if the tank really needs it, and it sounds like it may. Here’s a website with wattage recommendations based on how much you need to the heat the tank up: http://www.tropicalfishsite.com/what-wattage-heater-do-i-need-for-my-fish-tank-aquarium/ However, just make sure you start the 50W off at a low temperature and raise it as needed to avoid accidental overheating.
