hi anon! danger days names tend to be. very connected to themes of the desert, items, drinks, onomatopeia, electrical, general end-of-the-world related terms and aesthetics. a Lot of it is based off imagery. or items! words such as crackle, zinger, electric, fizz all give off a specific aesthetic or connotation. i guess pairing an interesting and evocative word with another that is similar yet different can slot together a sick ass killjoy name! (ex: slingshot radio! does it make sense? not really. can you give it meaning? HELL YES. plus it makes u sound badass.)

Party Poison’s name came from all over the place and, often, they still find reasons now that their name fits them as a person. As a kid growing up in the city, it was hard not to hear about illegal raves being held by juvies. They were fixated on the idea of going partying, wearing colour, listening to real music, and everything else their parents warned them about. Poison and Kobra’s parents used to tell them “things like that are poisonous to our society, and so are the people who do them”, so naturally, when they escaped, Poison wanted to be as petty as possible and use one of their mother’s old lectures and make it their own. As their reputation became larger and more dangerous, they heard talk about themself and their crew. People regarded them as hostile and thought Party themself had a “look like poison”, zones residents and city residents alike all assumed they treated everyone like crap, so they started to act like it. Of course, it was the furthest thing from the truth, just ask their crew. But if this was the image the witch had dealt them, then they were gonna live up to it.

Kobra Kid got his name from his favourite childhood memories. When they were kids, Poison used to sneak in old movies and DVDs for the pair to watch together. They’d grab one whenever they had the opportunity, but on special occasions like birthdays it was even more important to the siblings. Kobra’s favourite movies were the karate and Kung fu based ones and he used to copy the moves he saw, that’s probably the main reason he enjoys hand to hand combat so much. His favourites were, of course, movies like the Karate Kid. Which he named himself after, combining the movie name with the dojo, Cobra Kai (the matching K’s were mainly just for fun). As the Four got their reputation, however, people liked to suggest that Kobra got his name from being sly and deceitful, a good liar and manipulator. Being quiet and stoic only added to his reputation, always looking like he’s hiding something. He’s nothing like that inside the crew, but, like his sibling, he took the hand the witch had dealt him, and used it to his own advantage. In reality, he’s not sly; he’s a shy, quiet and nerdy teenager who just really likes the Karate Kid movies.

Fun Ghoul got his name from his city reputation, and his love for horror movies. In the city, he and his friends used to sneak around causing just a little bit of trouble here and there. Some graffiti here, a smoke bomb or two there, it was just what kids from the Slums really did for fun. They never targeted people or buildings in the Slums or the Lobby, of course, only going into the more pristine parts of the city where they knew their adventures would get noticed. The group of Juvie Halls became known as ghouls as time went on, the bane of city cleaners working days. They were called what they were because they used to slink around the city like shadows, no one saw them coming or going but everyone saw what they left behind. They also all had a shared love of old pirated horror movies, and used to wear masks resembling ghosts and monsters in case they were to get caught on camera or in person. As time passed in the city, the group’s members began to disappear. Some were dusted for one reason or another, a couple were sent to re-education and never seen again, one or two just stopped going to hang out, and one left the city for good. Fun Ghoul’s name came from all the memories he and his friends shared, and although he was going to continue their shared legacy alone, he thought he might as well let part of it live on in his name.

Jet Star’s name origin is actually quite similar to Ghoul’s. Jet Star was born and grew up in the desert with his parents and their crew. They weren’t really ever a killjoy crew, preferring to be in the more neutral territory of zone dwellers. Jet grew up in one of the Zone 2 settlement towns, not really having a name as a kid. He had one, of course, but a secret birth name given to him by his mother. Birth names in the zones are like city names for escapees, you only tell them to the people you trust the most in the world. His mother and father’s rebel/desert names both ended with Star. When Jet was around 10 or 11, he decided he wanted to become a Killjoy. He didn’t fulfil this dream until later on when he met Ghoul and they started a crew together, but he came up with a name for himself that he thought fit which was Raygun Jones, he went by this name until the deaths of his crew in a midnight drac raid a few years later. After they died, he felt that the name he’d picked for himself didn’t fit anymore. He wanted something different, something that would make him feel a sense of comfort. The name Jet Star came to him almost immediately, feeling the comforting familiarity of his family name incorporated into his own, he took on the mantle of Star and, in doing so, felt much closer to his family than he had before.
