”What? ‘Take your pants off’ was a perfect good response!”
"I'm just saying-- Subtlety is not your strong suit."

”The way you flirt is shameful.”
”I’m going to hit you either way… …so you might as well humor me.”
”So…SAY-IT-AGAIN.”
" . . . "
Silence. Perhaps Claire was being petulant, but she didn't want to give Sarah the satisfaction of fulfilling her request. Stupid, maybe, but Claire had passed the point of humoring these psychopaths.
"No—-it’s just a cautionary tale. …something you might consider as you walk into that office.”
"If this is your way of getting me to change my mind, you need to try h a r d e r."

Sarah winced in pain as she turned to see an angry Emma stand next to her, asking where she had been during their Algebra class. She sighed “Do you want the bull shit answer, or the honest answer?” Sarah asked, trying to be coy but honest with herself. She had spent the morning at her doctor, getting an ultrasound that confirmed Sarah was in fact pregnant—she was scared shitless, but knowing that her friend needed her and she wasn’t there, it made her feel even worse.
She poked at her lunch as she avoided Emma’s angry glance—knowing that in a few moments, she could defer the conversation to Mr. Carroll, Emma’s English teacher who she also had a massive crush on, and then she would forget about the fact that she missed all of her morning classes…but she knew Emma would try and break her and get the truth of where she was and that would cause an even weirder conversation since Emma was mostly no-nonsense.
Emma's brow creased into a slight frown before releasing a sigh, "I'm your best friend, I think I deserve the honest answer." From the way Sarah was poking and prodding at the food in front of her, Emma could tell that this wasn't just going to be some quick reply of "I over slept". That's when she pulled out the chair beside her friend and sat in it, blue eyes travelled between Sarah and the food she was clearly contemplating about eating or not, "Are you going to eat that, or keep on fingering it?" The frown on her brow had now turned to concern and Emma angled her head to try to meet the gaze of the other girl, "What's happened?"
