” Oh, do try not to sound so happy about that idea, Claire. You haven’t always despised me, you know, and that is something you’ll have to tell our son. Tell him about how madly in love we were not so long ago. ”
"Ten years, Joe. That was ten years ago and you really need to move on. When Joey asks, I will tell him the truth about everything. How much I loved you . . . and how much I've grown to hate you."
He enjoys how flustered she seems at the mention of the papers. The flush and the way she quickly tucks away the essays waiting before her —she is endearing. And brilliant, if the degrees from such reputable schools hanging upon her office walls are any indication.
She’s just the person he needs for his little project.
”Well my first question is the most important as all others hinge upon your answer to this one.” Further inside he steps until he is just inches before her desk, smile remaining plastered upon his features. Perhaps he is a tad melodramatic with his flair and mayhaps he is exaggerating upon the importance of this question. But he is nothing if not consuming and he would take all of her attention if she will give it.
" I have discovered quite a lovely little shop just a short walk from campus. It’s a book store with a marvelous selection. I’m sure you are already acquainted with it but it’s rather new to me. And I need a very specific sort of book or books, if I may be so lucky to find more than one on this particular topic. I was rather hoping you would join me on a brief but hopefully prosperous little adventure this afternoon.” And —in case he has not made his question obvious enough for his preferences— “I was about to walk over just now, actually. Will you join me, Claire? ”
Her eyes followed him as he moved further into the room. The stress of the importance of the question had Claire anxious in her seat, but forbid she actually allow Joe to see that. Instead, leaning forward in her chair -- forearms resting against the oak wood desk -- she gifted the professor with every ounce of her undivided attention.
As he spoke of the bookshop, a familiar smile grew in place on peach colored lips. She knew the place he was talking about, Claire had visited there countless times before and, if she had grown to know Joe as well as she thought she had, she knew he would adore it just as much as she did upon her first visit.
"Like a date?" Her words held an underlying teasing tone to them, the smile she formerly held now only the faintest smirk. The university wasn't against professors dating, nor were they entirely keen on the idea either. They prefer that it doesn't affect their work. Soon, a smile had taken priority once more upon her lips and she rose from her seat,
"I would love to join on this little outing." Claire retrieved her jacket that was hung over the back of her desk chair, "I've visited the bookshop before; you're going to love it, trust me."

Sarah couldn’t help but smirk as she walked towards Claire, backing her into a corner as she attempted to intimidate the former flame. She took a deep breathe in before looking Claire straight in the eyes and asking her point blank for exactly what she wanted; but she was prepared to hurt Claire if it came to that— Sarah didn’t like hurting people.
”Ryan spoke with you today,” she started off, her voice going soft. “…he asked you about ‘the tunnel’… …what did you tell him?”
Eyes trained on the petite female as she edged closer. Claire, determined not to let any sign of fear register on her expression, remained still and quiet until Sarah spoke. Brows furrowed together, not entirely certain of what she was being asked -- of course she told Ryan everything she knew, "I told him what he needed to know."

Joey was strapped into his car seat and in the back of the car. Meanwhile,Claire was moving between the car and the house, retrieving bags ofitems the mother and son would need over the weekend. Clothes, toiletries,toys and books to keep Joey occupied. She could feel Joe’s eyes on heras she continued collecting things, talking to her from the doorway of theirliving room. He was talking, giving every reason to stay, but Claireconvinced herself not to listen, because if she did — even for a moment —he would find a way to make her stay. He was good at that, convincing people to see things the way he wanted them.
"—No." The exasperation was clear, even in the single word. It had beengoing on for too long now; the sleepless nights, wondering when Joe wouldfinally get home and the incessant interrogations of who he has been with.Claire was tired. Tired of being that wife. Tired of accusing him every timehe was more than an hour later than usual.
At last, she stopped and gave Joe her attention, “Look, I’m taking Joey andwe’re going to stay at my mom’s for the weekend. Don’t come over, don’t call …”If he was trying to argue against her, Claire wasn’t giving him the opportunityto speak, “We can’t keep going on the way we are, it’s not— It’s not healthy. Space could be good for us.” The final bag was slung over her shoulder. Adelicate hand raised to cup Joe’s cheek, her thumb brushing over the coarsestubble lining his jaw. “We’ll be back Monday and we can talk then. I love you.”Although she was beginning to question it; it was, for the most part, still true.

A season two au in which Claire is tired of hiding in the shadows and tired of her son living in danger of being recognized so she takes it upon herself to hunt out the remainder of Joe’s followers but in the process of trying to bring herself to do the unspeakable, the things she never thought she would do, she is among the first to discover that Joe is alive and in hiding. She notices a pattern in the personals ads, she finds the ashes of the Lang house, she’s cracking every code Joe’s ever made because no one, maybe not even Ryan Hardy, will ever know Joe as well as she knows him.
Joe (with Mandy in tow) is en route to meet up with Emma and Mark when Claire intervenes before he can get there.
bonus: the tension for mike when he finds out about claire going awol and the struggle to tell or not tell ryan that yes, claire is alive but she’s gone and no one knows where exactly.
bonus: the change in dynamics (for good or bad) between emma and the gray family when joe doesn’t turn up. does emma join in their bait & chase for joe or do they change tactics entirely.

I found something I wrote when I must have been around 9/10. It's hilarious and upsetting because I have literally not improved since then. Ten years. Nothing.
For those unable to read my handwriting (which is also still just as bad) I will type it out for you. Spelling errors and all.
"Hey Matthew" he said "Do you think that donkey's all right?" Matthew glanced briefly thoug the winow. "What? Ohooo yes I expect so." "But it looks so sad." "Donkey always look sad." said matthew. "They have naturally sad faces. It dosen't mean anything." "Shouldn't we do something about it? The petsitters club, I mean. Shouldn't we investigate?"
At the bottom there, I think I marked it myself and signed it? God. I'm great. Love me.

”Come on, Joe. You’ve been at it for hours now.” Bare feet pad across the rug covered floor of his study. Slow, lazy steps until she reaches her husband’s desk.
Claire had originally left for bed a few hours ago now, while Joe insisted he continued adding to his novel. She was able to get Joey off to sleep and took the chance to get some rest herself before he woke again; it would have perfect had it not been to the unimaginably cold space on the opposite side of the bed where Joe should have been.
The drive and passion Joe had for his work was only the beginning when it came to what she adored most about her husband. At this very moment, however, Claire wished he would close the laptop and put his time to better use. Like sleeping.
Even as she moved around his chair to stand behind him, Clairenoticed he didn’t avert his eyes from the screen, still tapping at thekeyboard. “You need to sleep.” Words were mumbled against his skin,her lips meeting his jaw just beneath his ear. Bending at the waist, herarms drape over his shoulder while delicate hands move down hischest; doing all she can to persuade Joe to close the laptop. Short ofwhining or closing the laptop herself, there was very little more shecan do aside from beg.
Now, with her face buried into the crook of his neck, Claire breathed in the familiar, soothing scent of her husband. It was the one thing she found could relax her even in her most tense moments. Home. “Come to bed. I miss you.”

Sarah rolled her eyes in frustration, tired of Claire’s quest to be let go from the conversation. ”One more question…” She wanted to know about a conversation Ryan had had with her…
It was vital to the groups survival.
Claire resisted a roll of her eyes. It's not like she had anywhere important to be. Wherever she went to seek refuge, someone would always seek her out -- be it Joe, or one of his friends. At this point, anywhere would be better than being a part of this conversation,

There's a good chance I might not get to replies/memes tonight because i'm being lazy & i have tv to watch and i kinda fell into sims 4 again and it's dangerous. For the next week, however, I have absolutely no work and not many plans. So, expect to see too much of me.
