it does cause me physical distress that fans don’t know or seem to care about the significance of the doppelgänger. the point of the doppelgänger, of BOB is that Cooper Is Not A Rapist. BOB spends Cooper's entire life trying to possess him, to beat him down into being a worse person, literally his rapist is trying to control his body.
And Cooper is not weak. Laura was not weak. Leland is weak. Leland knew what he did to Laura. BOB is not a force that can make people act against their own will. He pretends he can, but we've seen FWWM. For Leland BOB is someone he can blame for his own actions.
Cooper and Laura will die before they let BOB in, this is a defining character trait.
the doppelgänger was meant to be a vessel BOB can control, but he’s not, he’s still Cooper. a much worse Cooper. a Cooper who hurts people. but BOB is not controlling him. he trapped himself inside a vessel he can’t control and he’s kind of just along for the ride in Doppelcooper's world ending machinations.
