KikaNY Leather Goods, http://www.kikany.com/index.html
We recently had the chance to visit Kika and Sabine of KikaNY at their workshop in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It was a pleasure to meet them and to be immersed in their creative environment while they were busy creating their incredible products.
Focusing on high-end quality goods that will last a lifetime, KikaNY creates clean and simple silhouettes. Kika and Sabine eliminate the unnecessary, giving the product an incredibly accessible and timeless functionality. The material quality and craftsmanship undoubtedly speaks for itself, lending their minimalist utilitarian shapes a natural unpretentious elegance.
All of KikaNy's products are handmade, using traditional techniques and machinery custom built for their studio. Their tools hail form old school suppliers in France and the UK. Most of their resources come from Europe: the high-end leather from Portugal, Italy and Belgium, the hand-tooled hardware from a family-owned foundry.
Center Photo: The dk brown leather portfolio with blue zipper tape was inspired by the vintage briefcase next to it. By keeping the integrity of the shape intact, they captured the nostalgic character while updating its functionality to be more user friendly.
