At snack time today we found a peach that had a seed that was open on the inside and looked like it was rotting. The baby called it a stinky peach and my middle daughter called it a poison peach. She pointed out that peach pits have cyanide inside the hard shell where the soft seed is. It feels like a lot of people these days just don’t have a sense of humor. It’s understandable why. There a lot going on in the world. But humor is a very powerful skill. A good joke can break the ice or make someone smile, lift a mood or make a day. Laughter is proven to be good medicine. And if you have ever laughed really good you can feel it working. * It’s important to be able to find the humor in situations or make someone laugh. We could all use a few more smiles. * There are different types of humor and each has its value. But there is a lack of simple, corny humor. This is clean jokes or funny observations that are good for crowds or kids or older people. The kind of humor that works in conversations is an art and we don’t want to loose it. * So I’ve started teaching my kid some jokes. More than just to amuse me but to teach a variety of skills. Such as memory, timing, emphasis, content, gauging your audience, engaging an audience, public speaking, social interaction, promoting conversation skills, nonverbal communication, casual observation, positive focus, mental awareness, assertive behavior, group work skills and so many more. * LIFE IS HARD! It is really beneficial when you are sad or lonely or stressed to be able to find the humor in a situation or make yourself feel a little better, maybe even make someone else smile. * All of this is because I believe in real, actual, person to person conversation.
