After making sure Leib was settled enough and stimulated enough at the hospital, and going to put in a few hours at the library, Dhani headed to the bar. He knew he’d have to talk things out with Keith sooner or later... And with Leib’s heart attack, Dhani realized what a real asshole he had been by trying to avoid getting attached to Leib. He realized, in a way, he’d been acting like Keith. Putting up some front to stop himself from getting hurt. It was bullshit and he knew it. And Leib had just undergone major surgery. He could have died without knowing that Dhani really did care as much as he did for him.
It didn’t matter that Leib was human and Keith wasn’t. Shit happened. Maybe less to vampires, but life was unpredictable that way. Dhani kept loosing people, and he knew that was a part of life, unavoidable. But it didn’t need to be because Dhani was too stubborn not to try and make things right.
He entered Keith’s office, knocking on the door before coming in. He heaved a sigh before even speaking. “I’m not sorry for speaking my mind. I’m sorry that I said things in anger. You know, that night the storm was making everyone pretty... out of it. I do think you’re a good boss, most of the time. That’s not bullshit. But... look, Keith, with Leib’s heart attack and all the responsibilities I have here, I think... maybe it’s best if I just take a break. From here.”
