The title Litany refers to Litany Against Fear. This is the self-suggestion formula, a form of prayer, which helps the protagonist to bring himself up into a state of internal balance and concentration. The painting depicts the sundown over the Shield Wall on Arrakis. Paul Atreides watched this sunset from the desert where he sheltered from Harkonnen soldiers with his mother after the treacherous crash of House Atreides and his father Duke Leto death.
