And it just so happens that Klaus plays the guitar, knows her set list by heart, and for her information, can protect her onstage just easily as he can behind the scenes. With time running out, Caroline and Klaus have to put their differences aside and perform together, altering their relationship forever. And maybe it’s just the stage lights, but Klaus definitely looks a little more drop-dead gorgeous than he did before; maybe it’s just a trick of the mind, but Caroline’s songs of unrequited love start to seem more and more like they might be about Klaus.

Suspecting the Institute to be responsible for their lost loved ones, Klaus and Caroline become tentative allies, seeking to hunt down this sinister organization and get the answers they deserve. ...That is, if they can manage to survive the Wasteland, and each other, first.

With time running out and no luck finding anybody else to fill the position, Caroline is forced to offer the job to him. At first, Caroline can’t stand working alongside him, let alone collaborating with him. But as they spend more and more long nights in the kitchen together, their glaring and glowering turns into glances that last just a little too long, and Caroline is forced to face the truth that she might actually have feelings for the coworker she thought she couldn’t wait to be rid of.
