It hurt when his pack left him.

Derek knew that his pack would leave, that he was a terrible Alpha, that no one likes him to be in charge, he wasn’t raised to be one. It shouldn’t be so terrible when he gets proof of that fact, that he is so bad, so horrible, that his betas would rather be omegas over being in a family. With him. 

Yet it does. 

Maybe because he opened his heart, he allowed himself to hope, to feel, to care. For someone other than himself, which he hasn’t done since his family was killed. 

He allowed himself to wallow by himself, feeling in a permanent state of blue. Who would come save him?

Turns out, it was the one beta he didn’t realize was his, one that he didn’t think counted because he was a Werefox, Derek, we don’t have packs. He always insisted that just because he was a shifter didn’t mean he needed an alpha. 

Didn’t mean he was counted as his anyways. 

Stiles slide his way into Derek’s space a little at time. It started with just sitting with him, then he would sit closer and closer every time, talking about everything and nothing, just to bond with him. Just to get him to let go.
