The laughter around the table never failed to make Tommy smile as he ate.
These moments with the 118 had only just started to become the norm when he had applied for his transfer to Harbor. But, thankfully, that transfer had fallen through at the last minute and Bobby had agreed to keep him on for at least another year as he reapplied. And while becoming a pilot for the LAFD was Tommyās dream, he was glad for the extra time spent with the 118 and its new dynamic.
The firehouse under Captain Gerrard was very much a thing of the past, now, and Tommy was glad that he was able to see the 118 become what it was today from the inside, rather than the outside looking in. It had become a family.
To which a new member was set to join today.
Everyone was in high spirits as they ate lunch, waiting for the new Probie to turn up.
Tommy spun his spaghetti onto his fork, humming in agreement to whatever Hen had just said as he ate it. He looked up from his plate as he chewed, and spotted a kid bounding his way across the walkway towards them.
He nudged Howie in the side with his elbow.
āCap,ā Howie relayed, his own mouth also still stuffed with pasta. Tommy rolled his eyes at him and Howie shot him a muffled What? before taking another bite with a smirk.
āUh⦠Hi!ā The kid greeted with a nervous little wave as he came to a stop, āIām Evan Buckley? New recruit. I was told to report to Captain Nashā¦ā
The table fell silent as the prank theyād planned for this moment got underway.
Bobby tilted his head to the side in believable mock confusion at Evanās words, before turning to everyone at the table. Tommy had to take another bite of food to stop himself from either speaking up in the kidās defense, or laughing at his expense.
Ā āYou know a Captain Nash?ā Bobby asked Howie, who, dramatically, shook his head, obviously trying not to laugh himself, āYou?ā Bobby asked Hen, who did a much more convincing head shake her face a mask of confusion.
āYou?ā Bobby finally asked Tommy. He swallowed his pasta, and his laughter, as he shook his head.
āNope,ā He answered with a shrug, lips threatening to quirk.
āUhā¦ā Evan started, his eyes widening and his fingers fidgeting with the strap of his bag. āUmā¦ā
Finally Cap let him out of his misery with a smile, pulling the empty seat at his side out from the table.
āTake a seat, Evan,ā He said, and finally Tommy could let his laugh free.
It came out louder than he expected, a full body laugh instead of the chuckle heād been anticipating, but Evan had just looked so incredibly adorable with the dear in headlights look in his blue eyes, with the nervous fidgeting belied by a smile, with the way he jumped at the sound of Tommyās laughter before laughing along with everyone else. A giant grin spread across Evanās face, a flush gracing his cheeks and he ducked his head as he sat in the offered seat.
āThanks,ā Evan said before looking around at the plethora of plates on the table, then at everyone sitting around him. His blue eyes met Tommyās and Tommy felt his heart literally skip a beat in his chest as that grin was turned in his direction.
āThis is amazing,ā Evan gushed, turning away from Tommy and beginning to load his plate, āIs it always like this?ā
āAlways,ā Hen agreed, sharing a smile with Tommy and Howie. Tommy smiled back at her with a nod, while Howie swallowed his pasta.
āWell,ā He added, āWhen Bobbyās in the Captainās chair, anyway.ā
Ā Evan smiled, ducking his head again as if trying to hide the look of disbelief that flashed across his face.
āThink I might be in the right place,ā He said, mostly to himself, and begun to dig into his plate of spaghetti.
Tommy diverted his eyes from Evan, finally, and spun his spaghetti onto his fork, willing his heart rate to even out. He could feel Henās eyes on him from across the table and he risked a glance towards her.
She was looking at him with contemplation in her eyes, the look eerily similar to the one she got when she had just figured out some confusing medical emergency. Tommy raised his eyebrows at her in the universal signal for what? and she looked between himself and Evan before raising her own in return. Tommy felt his cheeks start to heat, as he took another bite of pasta and broke eye contact with Hen.
Fuck.
Heād had a plan. He was going to leave the 118, start anew someplace else, and finally stop lying to everyone around him, the way he had finally stopped lying to himself. He had decided it would be easier to be open with new people who didnāt really know him before; someplace he didnāt have a history.
But then his transfer had fallen through, and heād had to add an extra year or so onto the timeline heād set himself.
But maybe this was the Universeās way of making sure he stuck to that timeline, regardless. This kidās adorable awkward confidence and Tommyās apparent inability to mask his reaction to it was going to be the thing to out him. He could feel it in the flush of his cheeks and the beating of his heart, in the smile he couldnāt seem to drop as Evan began his next sentence with Did you know..?
He looked back up from his plate, and over to Evan again, letting his macho mask fall as Evanās face lit into an excited smile at one of Chimneyās dramatized stories of their saves.
Tommy wondered if, maybe, he was in the right place too.

There's an art to the perfect bubble bath. An overly priced lush bath bomb, cheap lavender baby soap (it makes the best bubbles), water just a touch under scalding hot, and your favorite wine. That is the recipe that Taehyung has crafted after many trials and errors. There's nothing better than a bubble bath after a shit day. The only thing to make it better is to share it with your boyfriend.
Jeongguk walked into the bathroom with two chipped mugs and an open bottle of wine. That reminds him that he should really be an adult and buy some actual wine glasses. Taehyung sat on the edge of the tub in only his boxers; One hand idly swirling through the pink, fragrant water. Jeongguk sat next to him and handed him a mug before pouring them each a generous share of wine. Taehyung took a sip and turned off the faucet.
If he had it his way, he'd be holding his boyfriend in a clawfoot tub overlooking a gorgeous city view. However, he's living on waiter's wage and paying for college. So this cramped square tub will have to do. Jeongguk sat his mug on the pink tiled floor before slipping out of his boxers. The 80's were a weird time for bathroom designs. Pastel tiles and matching toilets galore. He watched as Jeongguk stuck one foot in the water before pulling it out and hissing.
āJesus, Tae. Are you trying to fucking boil us?ā
Taehyung rolled his eyes with a soft smile.
āI think youāre just being a baby.ā
He followed this by stripping himself of his boxers and stepping into the tub.
āSee? It's fine.ā
āYou've been in there for like 5 seconds and your skin is red. I think I'm justified in waiting a bit.ā
Tae shrugged in a suit yourself manner and let himself sink down further in the tub.
Jeongguk shook his head and took a sip from his wine.
āYou know? I've never taken a bubble bath before. Well, not as an adult and not with wine. Kinda makes me feel like a middle aged woman. All we're missing is a Golden Girls marathon or something.ā
Taehyung snorted at that, āThat's a good idea for next time. I can set it up on my laptop.ā
āWait, you actually watch that show?ā
āMmhmmm. I hope I have half the sex life as Blanche had when I'm her age.ā He said thoughtfully.
āI'll make sure you do.ā
That made Taehyung grin. It's rare for Guk to say something so corny, but most definitely not unwelcomed.
Jeongguk lowered himself into the water and reached for Taehyung, who lazily obliged and positioned himself between the younger man's thighs.
They probably looked a little silly, with their knees poking high above the bubbles. They're much to long for this but, fuck it. For Tae, this felt like bliss. He turned around to give Jeongguk a soft peck before laying back against his chest.
Jeongguk smiled and mumbled a soft, ācuteā before kissing the crown of Tae's head. The day had been long, but this is his favorite way to end it.
I'm completely obsessed with my current WIP, a Modern Bridgerton AU! I'm roughly planning to have a story for each Bridgerton sibling, with some of them intertwining. I'm currently writing a rough outline of each story, vaguely following the show (and sometimes incorporating book stuff that might fit) but making it, obviously, modern. So Saphne are going to be a Fake Dating story (I'm thinking actors in a PR relationship) Kanthony are Enimies to Lovers (maybe rival Lawyers? I'm not too sure yet) and Polin are obviously Friends to Lovers!
And it is part of the Polin Story (as yet untitled) that I'll be sharing today, because I started re-writing the Carriage Scene and couldn't stop (though I have yet to write the actual smut) and I am incredibly proud of what I have so far
Modern Bridgerton AU - Untitled Polin Story - "Carriage" scene
āPen, wait!ā Colin called as Penelope ran up the staircase, her curls flying behind her and the skirt of her dress fluttering around her legs.
āNot now, Colin,ā She responded, slowing slightly as she got to the landing, stopping and taking a heaving breath that turned into a sob she quickly swallowed back.
āPenelope,ā Colin whispered, slowly walking up the stairs towards her.
āI don't want to talk, Colin,ā She said, her back still to him, and he watched as she straightened, taking a deep stuttering breath and slowly letting it loose. Her sniffles filled the hall, mingling with the distant thump of bass coming from one of her neighbours, but otherwise it was silent as Pen composed herself before turning to him.
She was beautiful, as she always had been, as he'd long taken for granted. Even with reddened eyes and messy mascara, fallen curls and flushed skin, she looked like a work of art. He was sure Benedict would be able to name exactly which, or, rather, he wouldn't, because Penelope was one of a kind.
āPlease,ā he said imploringly, nodding to the door of her flat, āLet me in?ā
She regarded him, looking down from the landing above The overhead light made a halo around her head, [blah blah blah poetry about her standing tall in front of him, him having to look up at her beauty blah blah blah]
She nodded - the mask of composure falling away, letting him see the exhaustion and sad acceptance she was feeling - and turned to open the door. He took the last few steps two at a time, and followed her into the flat. He closed the door behind himself, toeing off his dress shoes and watching as she sighed, her hands running through her hair and snagging on bobby pins. She let out a sound of frustration before grabbing a claw clip from the table by the door and expertly twisting her hair up and away from her face. She leant down to undo the clasp on her shoes, and fumbled, letting out another sound of frustration that caught on a sob.
āLet me,ā Colin said, voice soft in the quiet, and gestured to the bench in the hallway. She sat down heavily, and he crouched in front of her, unbuckling the clasp at one ankle, and then another.
āWhy did you follow me home?ā Penelope asked, as he gently took the first heel from her foot.
āYou⦠you looked distressed, as you left the luncheon,ā He answered.
āSo you decided to follow me?ā
Colin placed the second heel next to the first, neatly, before sitting back on his ankles. He chewed on his lip, before looking up at Penelope.
āWhat happened, between you and Deb?ā He asked.
A silence stretched.
āIts odd,ā Penelope said, swallowing around emotion, āWhen I asked for your help finding a boyfriend, I didn't think it would end with them breaking up with me, because of you.ā
Colin blinked.
āBecause he seems to think you have feelings for me,ā She let out a disbelieving laugh, closing her eyes and bringing her fingers to the bridge of her nose.
Colin's breath caught in his throat, and when he opened his mouth to respond - to say something, anything - the words he'd practiced again and again got caught along with it.
āWhich is so ridiculous all I can do is laugh,ā Penelope voice caught on the last word, the disbelieving laughter of before turning wet, āNow will you please just leave me to wallow alone?ā
āI can't,ā Colin breathed, his lungs aching with the effort of finally talking.
āPlease!ā Penelope practically begged, and Colin's nerves snapped.
āI can't,ā He insisted, āBecauseā¦ā
All of the speeches he'd written - in journals, on his notes app, in his mind - burst into his mind [change to something else] and he stumbled through the plethora of words. He looked down at the small flowers that adorned Penelope's dress, composing himself and his words, before looking back up. He met her eyes, bright with both unshed tears andā¦
Hope.
His resolve strengthened, and the words that tumbled over each other in his mind became clear.
āWhat if I did have feelings for you?ā He said, the words a question but the answer clear. Or so he hoped.
āWhat?ā The disbelief in Penelope's voice pierced his heart, denting and almost breaking it.
He sorted though the words, settling on the best to convey his feelings, before kneeling up, leaning closer to Penelope and taking her hands in his.
āI have spent so long,ā He began, eyes locked on hers, āTrying to feel less, trying to be more like my brothers, and for a moment I thought I had succeeded,ā He looked down, the intensity of Penelope's gaze making his heart thump in his chest, drowning out the music that floated through the walls from Penelope's neighbour.
āBut the last few months,ā He continued, watching his hands curl with Penelope's against the floral backdrop of her skirt, āHave been filled with feeling. Feelings like the total inability to stop thinking aboutā¦ā
He looked up at her again, blue eyes meeting blue.
āYou.ā
The confession came out in a breathy whisper, and Colin watched Penelopeās eyes alight with hope once again, before shuttering. A wall separating her heart from his words, as if afraid they would end up breaking it. He never wanted to break her heart, quite the opposite in fact. He wanted to hold it gently next to his, to nurture it and show her that she did not have to settle for someone like Debling - someone who planned to leave her behind, someone who planned to gallivant around the world without her on his arm.
āAbout that kiss,ā He continued, shaking his head with a soft laugh, āA kiss that I have been dreaming about every night since it happened. For months I have felt disappointment upon waking, Iāve started to prefer sleep, because in my dreams I am with you. In my dreams we are together,ā His words had started to quicken, and he sensed a ramble incoming.
He wanted to tell her about every single dream he could remember - Dreams of the two of them on a beach in Greece, the sun shining off of her hair and painting freckles across her nose and over her shoulders. Dreams of her dressed in elaborate dresses as they danced at elaborate balls straight out of period dramas and fairy tales. Dreams of the two of them lounging on his sofa, his apartment now adorned with artwork he knew hung in her bedroom, a throw he had watched her crochet wrapped around their shoulders, as they watched Daphne and Simon act on screen. Dreams of her laid out against his sheetsā¦
He sucked in a breath, closing his eyes against the visions of her, before opening them again and gazing at the real thing.
āTheyāre damn near torturous,ā He told her, sincerity lacing his words, āThey way they have given me so much hope, before the disappointment of reality sets in. But it is a feeling that I cannot, will not, do not want to give up.ā
āPlease,ā Penelope shook her head, closing her eyes, āDon't say things you don't mean.ā
He squeezed her hands, eyes mapping her face as he waited for hers to re-open. The thumping bass from next door got louder, the pace of it matching the quickness of his heartbeat.
Finally her eyes opened again, and met his.
āBut I do mean it,ā He told her, simply but with feeling. He smiled up at her, softening his gaze, āIts everything I've been wanting to say to you for⦠months.ā
āBut Colin,ā She said, eyes darting over his face, āWeāre friends.ā
āYeah but weā¦ā he trailed off, brow furrowing as he took in her serious expression. He open and closed his mouth a few times, trying to get his words back into some semblance of order. But they were scattered to the wind once again.
āRight, of course, I'm sorry,ā He looked away from Penelope, beginning to untangle his hand from hers, āI don't know what I was thinking! Pretend I didn't sa-ā
ā-But Iād very much like to be more than friends,ā She interrupted him.
Colin's head snapped up, his sharp intake of breath catching in his throat. Penelope's eyes sparkled with mirth, her lips quirked in a smirk that turned into a soft smile as the muffled music swelled to a peak.
āSo much more,ā she continued, and Colin surged forward as the bass dropped.
Katyyyyyy in your humble opinion, how does Kurt and Sam get together? And how do they live together in s3?
I have so many ideas for how Hevans could get together it's unreal. So I'm going to list and explain a couple that could have actually happened if the glee writers weren't cowards.
Prom S2
Okay, so Blaine does go and run after Kurt after he's announced as Prom Queen, but instead of talking Kurt into going back in there, he trys to talk him into leaving (he's scared, obviously) but Kurt doesn't want to run, he wants to face this head on, god damn it. So they get into a bit of a shouting match in the hall, Blaine wanting him to be safe, scared his past was going to repeat itself and they would be hurt. But Kurt's not scared anymore, he's still humiliated but determined to show the school that they can't scare him into running.
So Blaine leaves and Kurt enters the Gym with his head held high but alone.
He gets crowned. "Eat your heart out Kate Middleton."
And he gets ready to dance with Dave. Then tells him this is his moment, he can come out, and Dave runs (he's scared, obviously).
So Kurt's just... standing there alone as Mercedes and Santana sing Dancing Queen, he can feel all of the eyes on him.
"Can I have this dance?"
He thinks it's Blaine, at first, gathering the courage he'd once instilled in Kurt.
But it's not, it's Sam, smiling his goofy smile and holding out a hand.
Duets S2
They sing that duet together, Sam isn't scared of being seen as gay (it's almost right, anyway, and besides, he'd been out back at his All Boys School in Tennessee. If he can be out in the south he can be out in Ohio (though he doesn't plan to, like, shout it from the rooftops, he's not stupid))
I used to think they would have sung Lucky, it seemed like Sam maybe had it in mind, but actually with the Faith Hill comment I think maybe they would sing Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me
They win, because they were awesome but also because of Finchel's planning.
They go to Breadstixx.
Kurt tells him he "knows"
Sam comes out.
Kurt's surprised, he'd thought it, sure, but...
"I meant I know you dye your hair..."
And then the season goes on with them kinda secretly dating.
I say kinda secretly, because it's as open a secret at Brittana is, which isn't very. Sam just hasn't come out, and they're not stupid enough to kiss in public so the ND (being idiots) think they must just be close friends.
Finn's the first to find out after Sam's invited to Family Night Dinner as Kurt's Boyfriend.
Sometime in S3
Sam realises he's bi and backs off of Mercedes but they stay friends as he tells her he's bi and that he has a crush on Kurt
The crush just grows stronger as they live together, movie nights and warm milk and sitting on the porch late at night looking at the stars.
"Do you know what that constillation is?" Sam asks, pointing, his voice slightly different to normal.
"No, what is it?" Kurt asks, moving closer so he can see where Sam is pointing.
"I don't know. That's why I was asking you." Sam laughs, then goes back to his usual voice. "Dewey, from Scream. That's Orion, and those three stars are his belt..."
Eventually Sam comes out to Kurt and Blaine, as the only queer guys he knows.
Now, it's canon that Blaine thinks texting a guy is cheating, so he becomes kinda possessive of Kurt after learning that Sam is Bi.
Kurt doesn't like that, he's friends with Sam for fucks sake. they live together. It's not like he can avoid him, not that he even wants to.
"Blaine, really, this is just texting. Sam is just a friend."
So instead of the whole Chandler thing, it's Sam sending a punny pick up line, because it's Sam he's always done that, and Blaine freaks out.
And instead of taking Blaine back, Klaine break up. This isn't just some random guy Kurt met in a music store, this is Sam. He's almost like a brother to Kurt at this point (almost, it's definitely a different feeling to how he feels about Finn, but he doesn't know what else to call it) He can't believe Blaine expected him to choose between him or Sam!!!
So yeah, Klaine break up, Sam is kinda outed to the Glee Club by Blaine's It's Not Right But It's Okay solo.
They continue to skirt around each other for a bit, but eventually they get together.
Maybe a party, maybe a heated Duet. Possibly Sam asks Kurt to Prom, or they both go to the Anti-Prom (for non hairgel related reasons). Or maybe it's over the Summer, a parallel to Samcedes. We come back in S4 to Sam and Kurt at the Lima Bean planning their future. Kurt's staying in Lima, going to Community College and applying to Community theatre so he has things on his resume, and they're planning to go to College together in NY the next year. Kurt helps Finn and Schue with the Glee Club on occasion. (Blaine has gone back to Dalton, he's dating Sebastian now, and there's no Hunter)
Kurt helps Sam keep his grades up, encourages him to apply to art schools and he gets into one. Parsons, maybe. and then they both go to NY together after Sam graduates.
Okay so those were longer than I expected! Thank you so much for the ask this was fun! (i still really want to write a series where various glee guys dance with kurt at s2 prom, and now i kinda want to write all of these too... damn, my fic idea list just keeps on growing huh?)
Sam comes back from Kentucky looking downtrodden and a shell of his former self, Kurt notices, because he has a sixth sense when it comes to one Sam Evans.
This story assumes that Kurt and Blaine either never got together in S2 or broke up before S3. This is an outtake from another fic that has now changed direction too much to use this scene, but i liked it too much to just delete it! So here you go.
Could be seen as pre-hevans or hevans friendship (but itās totally pre-hevans)
read on AO3 or continue below
Kurt knocked on the door frame of the guest room with his elbow, his hands full of two mugs of warm milk.
āCome in!ā Itās occupant called and Kurt pushed the ajar door fully open with his shoulder.
āHey,ā He greeted his friend and new housemate.
Sam was sitting on the floor in front of the dresser, folding the clothes from his duffle and placing them surprisingly neatly in the drawers. Heād already unpacked some of his other things. His guitar stood in a corner of the room, comics were stacked neatly on one of the bedside tables, and action figures stood on various surfaces.
āHey, Kurt.ā Sam replied, turning around and offering him a smile. However, the smile didnāt seem to reach his eyes like it normally did. They were clouded with something Kurt couldnāt name. Heād noticed it at Glee earlier while everyone was singing that silly country song. Sam had been smiling and laughing and playing along like he usually did, but it had seemed like a performance.
āAre you okay?ā Kurt asked, handing the mug of steaming milk to Sam and sitting beside him on the floor, back against the side of the bed.
Sam smiled gratefully at him - eyes brightening slightly - and took a sip, letting out a content sigh.
āCourse I am.ā He answered Kurtās question with a fake smile. Kurt scoffed and rolled his eyes.
āYou may have fooled everyone else with that ridiculous country song but I can read you like a book, Samuel Evans.ā
Sam looked down into the depths of his milk with a small chuckle as if he found Kurtās statement funny.
āI donāt really want to talk about it.ā He said, not looking at Kurt and taking another sip. āI just⦠needed to come home.ā He shrugged.
āAnd home is our guest bedroom that youāve literally never set foot in before today?ā Kurt asked with his usual dry humor, a teasing smirk lifting a corner of his mouth as he took a sip of his own warm milk.
āHome is you guys,ā Sam corrected, āGlee. I love my family, and Iām going to miss my brother and sister like crazy, but⦠Kentucky was kind of like hell on earth, man.ā
āToo many people in cowboy boots kissing their cousins?ā Kurt asked in a deadpan and Sam let out a laugh at the terrible stereotype.
āNah, just⦠I had no friends there, ya know? I hoped Iād be able to just be myself and manage to make some friends like I did here, instead of going in hoping Iād become cool like I had last year. But when I tried to join the Glee Club there, Dually Noted, they said I wasnāt what they were looking for and turned me away, and the football team were even more homophobic than the Titans. I couldnāt share a locker room with those guys...ā Sam paused there, deep in thought, before he continued. āAnd donāt get me started on the lack of help I got for my Dyslexia. It was insane, like, even worse than McKinley. And then, well, it felt like I had to grow up quick, ya know? Because I was still helping with money, even though I knew I didnāt really need to. So I was spending a lot of time at work and didnāt really have much time for, like, socialising or anything.ā
āAnd your parents just let you move back?ā Kurt asked, slightly confused. Sure, that seemed terrible, and Kurt was glad Sam was being such a good ally by refusing to be on a team full of homophobes, but it didnāt really seem like enough for him to move back to Ohio without his parents.
āYep,ā Sam replied after a slightly too long pause.
āThereās more to the story isnāt there?ā Kurt asked, turning his torso to look at Sam more clearly. His head was down as he played with the handle of his mug.
āYep,ā Sam repeated, but didnāt elaborate. Kurt didnāt make him.
They sat in silence as they finished their mugs of warm milk. Kurt wondered what else had happened to Sam in Kentucky to make him look so downtrodden and a shell of his former self, but he didnāt push his friend.
Hopefully whatever it was he would get over it quickly, because Kurt already kind of missed his goofy smiles and silly impressions.
āThanks, Kurt.ā Sam said after a few minutes of silence.
āFor what?ā Kurt asked, genuinely confused. Sam shrugged and looked up from his empty mug. His smile was full and genuine, his appreciation so clear on his face that it made Kurtās heart skip a beat.
āBeing a good friend,ā Sam said.
āI didnāt do anything,ā Kurt pointed out.
āYou listened to me,ā Sam told him, āand cared enough to ask me what was wrong. Finn and Rachel kinda justā¦ā
Kurt nodded, knowing Finn and Rachel well enough to guess.
āWell, you know me, I have a sixth sense about when people arenāt being genuine.ā Kurt joked, smiling back at Sam. āItās how I knew that blonde mop of yours wasnāt natural. And, you know, the whole motel thing.ā
Samās smile was back at full force, eyes sparkling slightly.
āAnd thanks for not pushing.ā He added.
āI have to admit to my curiosity, whatever happened was bad enough that you thought you needed to come back here of all placesā¦ā Kurt shrugged, āBut, I hope you feel better soon, whatever it was.ā
āIām feeling better already.ā Sam replied and leant back against the side of the bed too, his body close to Kurtās. His shoulder was right next to Kurtās, on top of it slightly, pushing him into the side of the bed even more and Kurt fought back a squeak as Sam moved so he wasnāt accidentally crushing Kurtās shoulder. Sam was turned slightly, towards Kurt, and he brought his knees up resting his arms across them, empty mug abandoned on the floor. He just⦠looked at Kurt, and Kurt wasnāt really sure what to do.
Did he look back? Say something? He didnāt want to break the comfortable silence theyād found themselves in, but the weird tension wasnāt going away. And, honestly, his misguided crush from last year was rearing its ugly head. All he wanted to do was turn towards Sam, lean in, and...
He mentally shook the thought away. Sam was straight. God, why did he always fall for straight guys? And why did those straight guys always end up living with him?
Sam was still staring at him, and Kurt gave into the temptation to look away from his milk to look at Samās face.
āWhatās so funny?ā Kurt asked, spotting a large and amused grin on Samās face.
Sam fought back laughter and pointed to his upper lip.
Kurtās eyes widened as he realised he probably had a milk mustache.
Heād just had a serious conversation with a milk mustache. No wonder Samās smile had gradually gotten more and more real.
He felt his cheeks flush as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and Sam let out a peal of laughter.
āWhy didnāt you tell me?ā Kurt whined, sounding, admittedly, like a child. Sam just kept laughing.

Pride 2021
Sam Evans loved going to New York City Pride. There was something about the atmosphere that surrounded the whole event that made him feel like he belonged.
It was colourful, and loud, and everywhere you looked there were different types of people. Every color of the rainbow was represented, every gender, every sexuality.
It was simply amazing.
Heād been going to New York City Pride since 2014, the Summer after his freshman year of College, and at first heād been going as an ally. His roommate, León, had dragged him with him. As a hispanic gay trans kid from Texas who had only just started socially transitioning after moving to New York, León had never gone to a Pride before either. And the two of them had been in awe of the whole event.
Sam had grown up in Tennessee, spent a year of highschool in Ohio, then moved to Kentucky. Heād never lived anywhere as colorful or accepting as New York. Heād met exactly three LGBTQ+ people in his life, as far as he knew, but suddenly he was thrust into a sea of colors.
Rainbow flags were everywhere he looked, but there were also other colours, other flags. Blue, purple, and pink. Blue, pink, and white. Black, white, grey, and purple. Yellow with a purple circle. And so many more.
All Sam had known was gay and straight, man and woman, before heād met León, and at his first pride heād discovered so many more sexualities and genders. There were people who werenāt attracted to anyone, people who didnāt conform to the āgender binaryā, people who were with two or more people, consensually, at once.
People who liked girls, but also liked boys and those who didnāt use either label.
It was at New York City Pride that Sam realised it was normal to see a guy and think they were cute, when you also thought the same about girls, it was at New York City Pride that Sam found his eyes following a person he couldnāt pin down as either gender, and later ended up making out with them at a club.
It was at New York City Pride that Sam Evans realised he was Bi.

Samās week of not talking to Mercedes continues. But heās already decided what to do about her and him. Nothing. Heās going to let Mercedes stay with Shane, because, in the past four days, heās realised that while he loved Mercedes he wasnāt in love with her.
In the past four days heās figured out the difference between Love and Friendship (at least, heās pretty sure he has)
But thatās opened up a lot of questions he now has to think about.
Extract:
Sam spent the next few hours after Glee and their performance of Bamboleo/Hero in a daze, his thoughts swirling in his head.
He may have figured out his feelings - or lack thereof - for Mercedes, but now something even bigger had emerged from the depths of his subconscious.
He needs to do some more thinking.
He really didnāt want to do more thinking.
In fact, heād probably done more thinking in the past few days than heād done in his entire life.
He couldnāt really remember how he got back to the Hudmels that afternoon, but there he was, sitting with Kurt on the couch again, Finn over at Rachelās⦠or maybe it was Puckās? Sam couldnāt remember.
Kurt handed him a mug of warm milk, and they settled in to watch whatever movie Kurt had put into the DVD player.
Theyād been having movie nights like this often since Sam had moved into the Hudmel House. Just him and Kurt on the evenings Finn was out of the house, often on a Tuesday because Burt stayed late at the Shop and Carole was working the night shift at the hospital, so they had the house to themselves at least once a week.
Kurt always told Sam that he was much better at āLady Chatsā than Finn, though Sam didnāt really understand why they were āLady Chatsā when they were both guys, and, as the movie started - some musical, judging by the opening scene and the singing - Sam asked.
āItās because we talk about our feelings, Sam.ā Kurt told him, eyes on the TV and hands around the warm mug. His feet were folded under him, a blanket around his shoulders, and he looked comfortable, dressed in a fashionable looking hoodie and sweatpants. Sam liked that he got to see Kurt dressed down every day, it suited him in a way that was different to the way his intricate outfits suited him. It made him look soft, and happy, and relaxed. Sam liked that Kurt had slowly shown that side of himself to him, had felt comfortable enough around him to do so.
āDo you do that with any of your other guy friends?ā

Video Games OR Awkward Family Dinner
Set during S3E12: āThe Spanish Teacherā
Sam and Mercedes have, on the advice of Miss Pillsbury, decided to spend the next week not talking to each other. But, of course, on the day of the decision Mercedes is Invited over to The Hudson-Hummelās for a sleepover, and, of course, itās a Friday.
Sam usually enjoyed Friday Night Dinners at the Hudmel House, but this one has got āAwkwardā written all over it.
The first part in my Sam Evans: This Or That āverse, because apparently my brain takes prompts and makes a whole universe around all of them⦠which is kinda against the rules but like⦠they could be stand alone stories so itās fine⦠right?
Extract:
Sam already missed talking to Mercedes, it was weird to see her in the hallways and not even say āhiā. But at least he could distract himself over the weekend. At least he didnāt have to see her when he was at the Hudmelās.
Of course, heād completely forgotten that he lived with one of her best friends, and, of course, theyād decided that that Friday was a perfect night for a sleepover.
So that was how Sam had ended up sitting across from Mercedes in the Hudmel dining room, awkwardly not talking as everyone else chatted around them. Thankfully Rachel took up the slack from the two, rambling on in her usual way about⦠something Sam was not interested in listening to.
But damn it was awkward.
He wasnāt sure if he was allowed to even speak in her presence. Would that go against Miss Pās set of rules? Or was it okay to talk to Finn about the latest Marvel movie? Or Burt about the upcoming game? Or tell Kurt and Carole how lovely the meal was?
Instead he stayed quiet, simply āmhmāing when someone asked him a direct question, constantly shovelling food into his mouth to avoid them.
Mercedes was almost the opposite, pushing her food around her plate and looking up at him, then down at her food, then up at him again, then over at Kurt, or Rachel, or Finn. Trying to look engaged in the conversation. But Sam could tell she was a million miles away. Possibly thinking about the same thing Sam was.
Them.
He missed her, even though she was right in front of him.
Thankfully the awkward dinner finished, eventually, and Rachel, Mercedes, and Kurt retreated to the comfort of Kurtās room, a copy of Twilight visible in Rachelās hands.
Sam was glad he didnāt have to sit through that god-awful film with them.
But all the same, he wished he could be in that room, a fly on the wall, simply so he could hear Mercedesā voice.
God, it hadnāt even been 24 hours and this was already hell.
