But what if it is Geralt’s love language, too? Only it has quite literally been beaten out of him, years of indoctrination and Witchers don’t feel, Witchers don’t deserve comfort making him flinch whenever someone reaches out to caress instead of punch him.

It takes weeks after their first kiss for Geralt to be able to hold Jaskier’s hand without literally shaking, his palms clammy and fighting every instinct that is telling him to pull back and that he doesn’t deserve this.

Jaskier is so patient with him though, because yes, they have shared beds before and yes, he has washed the Witcher more times than he can count. But this is different.

He can see how much his lover is struggling, and so he encourages him time and time again. “You’re allowed to touch me. You’re allowed to be comforted. You deserve to be held.”

Eventually, Geralt starts reaching for Jaskier’s hand on his own volition. He is no longer shaking, the touch reassuring him instead.

Sometime after, he starts resting his hand on Jaskier’s thigh whenever they’re eating. If they’re sitting opposite of each other he puts his foot on Jaskier’s.

And one day, when the Witcher gets back from a hunt and Jaskier is waiting for him at the inn, working on a poem or a song, he all but runs up to their room and sweeps the bard up in his arms.
