On that note, I kinda suspect that after stewing on that for a while, that's why Kipo was like "Okay yeah, you fucked up dad." When Scarlemagne told her what happened between them. Or at least part of why.
Mildly off-topic but can we talk about how horribly tragic the entire scenario between Scarlemagne and Kipo is???? Scarlemagne held on during horrible torment and abuses for the hope of getting to escape with the Oaks and live happily ever after with them. He wanted to be a king and keep them safe. He waited every night in that horrible little cage waiting for Lio to walk in and be like “it’s time” and whisk them all away. Lio was being honest when he said he made a choice, and it’s not like he had the ability to grab him from the lab, but he chose between two young children, and Scarlemagne suffered for it.
And, hell! Even after Lio took Kipo and left, and that run-in on the way to the Clover Burrow, Scarlemagne seemed to honestly care about Kipo. He calls her sister. He gets her a Super Special Dress. He killed the frogs who attacked her. He even gave Kipo the choice to save everyone- a horrible, cruel choice, that no one should ever have to make- and was upset when she “chose” Lio over him.
That doesn’t excuse his actions, but it’s such a twisty-turny dynamic that’s so sad.
