so, is there a single youtube alternative that's actually used by videomakers?
i recently stumbled upon KamTape, a video sharing site emulating the look and feel of 2005-2006 YouTube. i found it through a YouTube video by creator Deep Humor, who i will not say i condone - he mostly posts himself reading through drama posts and articles - but i gave it a try anyway. the site was down and the discord was being flooded so i came back today to check it out.
it's mostly children using it, and all that gets posted by them is reuploads of preexisting content. i'm not sure why that is! is it that the aesthetic of the site encourages people to "roleplay" a certain timeframe? not really, because these reuploads are more from the 2010s and later. honestly, i assume it's that nostalgia factor attracting children who never knew what it was like back then, those children just being more prone to doing this kind of thing. i know i used to reupload meme videos onto YouTube when i was like 7, too.
